On Wednesday, March 25, 2015 #SAP University Alliances (@SAP_UA), in cooperation with the SAP Corporate Social Responsibility (@SAPCSR) and the SAP Miami office, hosted 15 students and two teachers from iTech @ Thomas A. Edison Educational Center, Miami’s premiere technology-focused magnet high school, in the SAP suite at the Miami Open.

The students are part of the inaugural class of freshmen enrolled in the #iTech Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) academy, which is supported by SAP University Alliances. Students are learning about business process and the technology that enables it; preparing for university, for work in the SAP ecosystem or to create their own start-up upon graduation.  For many of the students, this was their first opportunity to experience hands-on what it means to be part of the SAP ecosystem—and what a memorable day it was!

The students had a full VIP schedule of activities at the Miami Open that included a talk with two-time Olympic gold medalist, tennis legend and ESPN analyst Mary Joe Fernandez!  She walked them through the @SAPSports Miami Open App where they were able to pick and track their favorite tennis players’ progress and stats. They heard how big data is helping @WTA coaches understand trends, uncover patterns and analyze player performance from courtside.  Seeing SAP’s technology in action—especially with something they’re so familiar with, sports—really inspired the students and got them excited about their ERP education and what opportunities it will open for them in the future.

We would like to thank Jackie Montesinos Suarez (@jacksgatorsSAP) for hosting our iTech students, Jenni Lewis (@jennilewis00) for showcasing the cool #TennisTech, and the rest of the colleagues at @Sisn Miami for planning a great day!  We would also like to thank Carmen Garcia (@clgarciaMDCPS), ERP lead teacher at iTech for organizing the day on the school side and bringing this outstanding group of young people to the Miami Open in the middle of spring break!
