Last year we brought SAP CodeJam events to our SAP University Alliances community in CEE for the first time. The feedbacks from professors and students were great, and they expressed inetrest to host another CodeJam event alos in the future. As we believe it is important to bring the latest topics to university students, and IoT is currently “hot topic” for sure, we offered to bring SAP CodeJam on HCP with IoT to Slovenian universities this time.

We made two events in Slovenian biggest cities, Ljubljana and Maribor. On May 16. we made a first stop at Faculty of Engineering, Computer Sciences and Informatics, University of Maribor, and next day on May 17. the event was hosted by Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Ljubljana. More than 35 students, and few SAP customers and partners were firstly introduced to SAP’s solutions beyond ERP, opportunities for students during study time, and employment opportunities they could count on after graduation, if they will enter the job market with prior SAP knowledge.

After short introduction done by Jaka Crnivec, University Alliances SEE, experienced SAP mentor vitaliy.rudnytskiy took over the stage. He firstly introduced IoT concept, and presented some SAP customers Business Examples of IoT projects, like SAP Networked Logistic Hub and SAP Predictive Maintenance.

And than, the action began! Students were able to use the Tessel devices, and execute the code with Node.js. They played with different modules as sensors, like ‘Camera’, ‘Climate’, ‘Ambient’, etc., connected to Tessel devices, and after executing the code they were able to see what happens. All the participants were really engaged and enjoyed being able to execute pieces of code to make the sensors work.

During this part of hands-on session participants tried out how to use HCP IoT Services -  how to send the messages from the devices to HCP, how to consume messages sent from the device, and how to push messages back to the device.

Participants were overall very satisfied with the event, which can be seen from their feedbacks:

What did you like the most about the event?

“Instructor who led the event was great, and I know more about SAP and its solutions now. It was fun to play with tessel, and use Hana cloud platform IoT services.”  “Practical work with IoT boards.” “Practically everything was on level!” “Practical experience”

Do you have any final feedback?

“Keep it this way!”  “Come again!”

Special thanks goes to Witalij Rudnicki who came from Poland already on Sunday, and delivered two excellent events two days in a row!

Cheers,

Jaka  Crnivec
