In my last blog titled "SAP Techniversity - Seriously Fun!" I shared with you the highlights of the event on 26 November 2012 - A technology event dedicated to university students in India. One of the major highlights of the event is going to be the student competition called SAP BizTech 2012 and so I thought I'd share some updates with you. It has been really exciting to track how the event has shaped up.
Then! - a little background on the competition in 2011
In 2011, SAP University Alliances India had organized a competition called SAP Dashboard Design where the students were challenged to create Dashboards using the SAP Crystal Dashboard Design software. The theme of the competition was on Indian Cricket - basically, the students were asked to prepare dashboards using the vast amount of match data on all the world championships that India has played since 1975, which is ofcourse available online. This year the UA team with the support from SAP Labs India has decided to take the competition a few notches higher by asking the students to come up with products/ solutions on themes such as Big Data, Mobility, Social Networking, Governance and Sustainability. It doesn't stop there; the students have been asked to work on the business plan, go-to-market strategy, pricing strategy etc for their solution so that the competition leads into a holistic learning for the students.
Now!
With a simplified plan that the UA team had last year for the Dashboard competition, they were able to connect with 235 teams (over 750+ students). And since the competition is viewed tougher this year the initial expectation was to receive participation from 50+ teams, however, 142 teams registered for the competition and from those 44 teams have submitted their initial ideas in form of videos.
These videos have just been uploaded on the Facebook fan page of SAP Techniversity for the world to see and vote. The top 25 ideas will not just be decided only the basis of the evaluation by the colleagues in SAP but also on the basis of the number of votes that these entries are able to achieve on Facebook. It has been quite exciting to watch these videos and it has been difficult to not appreciate the thought that these young minds have shared.
