OpenSAP sunset/end of life - move to SAP Learning what it means.
6 minute read.
As many of you may already know OpenSAP, open.sap.com will no longer be the go to portal for SAP learning as all new offerings will be given on learning.sap.com instead. Tuesday 30th July 2024 has now been confirmed as the end of life for OpenSAP. With some courses on the platform finishing as recently as June 2024 the opportunity for self study and a certificate of participation may still be of interest to many as course materials can still be downloaded, including slides, transcripts and videos. Don’t have time?, don't worry, over 100 courses have been migrated to SAP Learning.
What is OpenSAP? In OpenSAP’s own words:
openSAP is SAP’s free learning platform for everyone interested in learning about SAP’s latest innovations and how to survive in the digital economy. openSAP Enterprise MOOCs are complete courses, and learners can earn a certificate to demonstrate the knowledge they’ve acquired. Complementary learning opportunities exist in the form of openSAP Podcasts and openSAP Microlearning.

OpenSAP, the sister platform to OpenHPI, open.hpi.de of the Hasso Plattner Institute (which shall continue to offer its unique brand of Information and Communication Technology courses in both English and German) has been around since 2013, has accompanied many of us through a large part of our professional journeys. Therefore it’s with some nostalgia that we say goodbye to the tried and tested format of video lectures, quizzes and end of week assignments usually comprising of 30 questions in a multiple choice format similar to those of SAP Certification. The twist with OpenSAP was that the weekly assignments and final exams were negatively marked so a wrong answer actually subtracted points from your score rather than simply receiving no marks.
With regards to SAP Certification the move to SAP Learning also signals a unification and democratization of SAP’s learning content and Certification programme. Due to SAP’s pledge to upskill 2 million tech professionals by 2025 no longer is SAP Certification only the consequence of taking costly SAP Academies booked through SAP Training, training.sap.com or SAP Learning Hub, learninghub.sap.com. Now thousands of learning journeys can be accessed free of charge at beginner, intermediate and advanced level with certificates of completion provided also free of charge. Where an SAP Certification is relevant or desired the user can choose to purchase a subscription to SAP Certification Hub (guidance is provided directly from the courses that lead to certification) and program an examination attempt once they feel ready to do so.
The following is a list of the courses I have had bookmarked for some time and I’m now getting round to consuming their valuable content to both broaden and deepen my understanding of SAP’s Analytics solutions and the complementary technologies that are being offered amongst other front-line subjects. Some of the content has been updated for the new platform where applicable notably the quizzes at the end of each section but the vast majority of the content has been migrated as is to SAP Learning site. So you don’t have to rush to download everything from OpenSAP unless your particular course of interest has not been migrated in which case there may already be a new version of the course on SAP Learning. If a new course has been created on SAP Learning or an existing course migrated this is mentioned in the course details of the courses on OpenSAP with a link to the new material as pictured below.
My top picks:
Introduction to SAP Datasphere (Repeat), 2023
SAP Analytic Cloud sister product for Data warehousing (formerly SAP Data Warehouse Cloud).

Building AI and Sustainability Solutions on SAP BTP, 2023
Week 5 is Collaborative Enterprise Planning in SAP Analytic Cloud applied to the course case study, Bagnoli & Co.. Otherwise a good deep dive into SAP’s sustainability strategy and Business Technology Platform (BTP) capabilities in Artificial Intelligence using SAP AI Core.
Using the Optimizer for SQLScript Programming in SAP HANA, 2023
If you’ve worked with HANA connections in SAC this is a great resource on performance tuning.
Two-Tier ERP with SAP S/4HANA Cloud, 2018
One of the older offerings that caught my eye, unit 3 is on SAP Business Planning and Consolidation which is the precursor to SAC Planning so clients often ask that you are familiar with both solutions for content migration and hybrid environments. The rest of the course is reinforcing your knowledge of SAP core processes on the cloud version of S/4 HANA.
Gain Experience with SAP S/4HANA – Logistics (Repeat), 2022
Data Analysts, Engineers and Scientists can all benefit from deeper understanding of the business processes that underpin the data they work with. Covers Order to Cash, Plan to Product, EWM, TM and Procure to Pay.
Insights into Selected Logistics Innovations in SAP S/4HANA, 2022
As with the previous offering this course provides a deeper understanding of advances in business processes help us bring more know how to data analytics. Covers SRM, MRP, EAM and EWM.
Gain Experience with a System Conversion to SAP S/4HANA (Repeat), 2022
Part three of OpenSAP’s courses on System conversion, this is still a hot topic despite SAP moving its end of maintenance support for SAP ECC back to December 31st 2027. Particularly clients on enhancement pack 5 or earlier will see their support run out at the end of 2025. All SAP professionals should be versed in what this entails. All three courses are available on SAP Learning Site, also search for:
“Key Technical Topics in a System Conversion to SAP S/4HANA” and
“Key Functional Topics in a System Conversion to SAP S/4HANA”
Build Intelligent Data Apps with SAP HANA Cloud Multi-Model, 2023
Cloud is both the present and the future of many SAP services that are becoming must know knowledge for Application Developers, Consultants, Solution and Enterprise Architects.
Build Resilient Applications on SAP BTP with Amazon Web Services, 2023
As the previous offering hyperscalers are both the present and the future of many SAP services therefore this is becoming a must know subject for Application Developers as well as Solution Architects, Consultants, Sales and Presales personnel.
What Can Blockchain Do for You?, 2022
A great breakdown of what Blockchain is and entails explained in largely none-technical terms to keep us all abreast of this new paradigm in the tech world. This content has also been migrated to SAP Learning where any future updates to content can be added.

Transform Your Business Processes with SAP Signavio and SAP Build, 2024
SAP Signavio is cutting edge technology for analyzing, automating and optimizing your SAP Business Processes. Add SAP Build Apps and Graph to the mix and you have a low code option for creating front-end applications. This particular course will also be available on the SAP Learning site if you prefer to pursue a certificate of course completion there along with a range of complementary courses on SAP Signavio.
Finally, we bid OpenSAP a nostalgic farewell but with renewed enthusiasm for continuing our learning journeys with a refreshed format, impetus and clearer path to SAP Certification. As both a consumer of these courses and trainer myself I welcome any comments regarding your own experiences both with OpenSAP and SAP Learning, what you think they do well and what they might improve upon. Happy learning!
