The ERP Program at Grand Valley State University is one of the world’s leading programs where students gain an understanding of integrated, cross-functional business process experience using enterprise software SAP®, to execute business processes, and to develop proficiency in the use of enterprise systems. There are many unique aspects to the ERP Program, one of them, is the highly rigorous SAP® TERP10 Certification Academy.

The SAP® TERP10 Certification Academy is an intensive two-week Academy, offered after GVSU's spring/summer term and is offered at just a handful of universities across North America. Both business and non-business students completing the Academy and passing the SAP® TERP10 Certification exam will have the advantage of a deep understanding of business processes adopted by companies around the world. In addition to the knowledge they gain, participants also demonstrate their interest in and aptitude for working with SAP® or other ERP systems.

“Grand Valley's TERP10 Academy is a program that is highly recognized by students in Seidman College of Business. Prior to signing up for TERP10 I did not realize what I was getting myself into. It was the most exhausting, intense, brain-straining and rewarding experience of my student career. Many times during the two week academy I questioned why I decided to do it. Now, being done I am so thankful I did. The professors that Grand Valley is privileged to have, Dr. Magal and Dr. McGinnis, prepare you so well for the test, you are setup for success. This success will open up many doors for future careers and I can say every part of the TERP10 Academy was worth it.” ~ Audrey Koons MIS Student, expected graduation 2016.

Students like Audrey and the record breaking 42 other students, who pursue SAP® certification add software-specific knowledge that is highly sought after by the many companies that run their operations using SAP®’s ERP package. Throughout the 2015 Academy, corporations that use SAP® and the skills that come from the Certification Academy, encourage the students through a lunch program and corporate information sessions. This year General Motors (Stanley Tucker ’14, Steven Uebelacker ’15 & Matt Darga ’14), Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Dow Corning Corporation, Wolverine World Wide, Inc. (Steve Merritt ’11 & ’14), Consumers Energy, Perrigo Company, AkzoNobel (Jacob Conley ’15), Auto-Owners Insurance, and Accenture (Dante Gonzales ’12 & Amanda Cordes ’13) attended.

Marcus Lover, Business Analyst at Auto-Owners Insurance, fully supports the Academy and what it offers the students that choose to pursue it. “The pursuit of the certification shows a student is truly interested in a career where they don’t just work, but rather understand their work and how it fits in to the larger business processes of the company. That interest is the factor that can put a student ahead in being offered an internship or job.”

On the tenth and final day of the SAP® certification academy’ the participants take a challenging computer-based certification exam. This exam, managed by SAP®’s education organization, is the same SAP® certification test offered around the world. A passing score earns students the title of SAP® Certified Associate, a great differentiator on any resume. The typical pass rate for the exam is 65%. However, the academy at GVSU has boasted a 100% pass rate for the last three years.
