The winter academic break in South Africa has seen a host of ESEFA training activities.  Various programmes for students and lecturers were run in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Pretoria.

A very successful Train-the-Lecturer programme was executed in Cape Town for ESEFA Partner Universities’ lecturers during the period 14 to 18 July. The course was attended by delegates from Strathmore University in Kenya, the University of Dar-es-Salaam in Tanzania, the University of Zambia, the University of Pretoria and University of Cape Town, both in South Africa. The subject matter was the SAP University Alliances’ Global Bike Incorporated (GBI) curriculum, enhanced and adjusted for the African context through the ESEFA project.  The course was presented by Prof. Lisa Seymour from the University of Cape Town.

In Johannesburg, a combined SAP UA and ESEFA Train-the-Lecturer (T-t-L) course ran from 28 July to 1 August. The course was presented by Mr. Stefan Weidner from the SAP University Competence Centre (UCC) at the Otto von Guericke University. The standard GBI curriculum formed the basis of this programme.  17 delegates from 8 institutions participated (Botswana Accountancy College, Durban University of Technology, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, University of Botswana, University of Pretoria, University of Venda, the University of the Witwatersrand and Walter Sisulu University).

An ESEFA course, titled “ES Fundamentals with SAP", was held in Cape Town on 13 June and 17 to 20 June, for 24 students, from both The Tertiary School in Business Administration (TSiBA), a non-for profit private university in Cape Town, and students from the University of Cape Town. This was the first time the ESEFA-enhanced GBI core curriculum was offered to students.


Approximately 50 students were trained at the University of Pretoria on the ESEFA curriculum in the week of 30 June to 4 July.  This group of students is the first at UP to use the revised ESEFA core curriculum, based on GBI.  The course was presented in two groups, by Dr. Olufemi Adetunji and Ms. Tania Prinsloo.
