After an exciting week at SAP TechEd Las Vegas, with more than 50 professors and students from the UA community participating throughout the whole conference week (including the pre-conference program such as SAP InnoJam and the SAP TechEd as such), we are looking forward to the second SAP TechEd stop for this year. Up next: Amsterdam!

If you haven’t heard about SAP TechEd yet, you have definitely missed something. SAP TechEd is the place to be for all IT architects, administrators, and developers to get hands on experience on SAP technology (this includes f. e. in-memory computing, mobile, analytics, database, and cloud offerings). Throughout the conference, attendees have the opportunity to get SAP training and valuable networking all at once. They can visit one of the educational breakout sessions (varying from hands-on workshops, demo-rich lectures, customer and partner lectures as well as Q&A sessions) but can also inform themselves about latest technologies in the exhibition area, join a mini-code jam event, visit keynote sessions or relax in the clubhouse and drink a coffee or play old-school computer games such as Pacman. In short: there is no better place for techies to be this time of the year ;-).

The SAP TechEd in the EMEA region will be hosted in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, next week (November 5 – 7). SAP University Alliances will again be onsite with several students, professors, and lecturers from the UA community.

SAP InnoJam

The conference kicks off with the pre-conference SAP InnoJam. 19 students and lecturers from the UA community will actively participate in this 30 hours “from zero to app” – event. During the two days, all participants will be given an everyday life challenge which needs to be solved. The Design Thinking methodology will be used to find creative ideas for a solution. In the end, a working prototype, with running code, has to be presented to a panel of judges. This year, all challenges will fit under the common theme: Me, My Health, and The Medicine – Empowering You and Your Doctor to Make Better Decisions About Your Health. I am already really excited what the results will look like. In Las Vegas, one of our students even made it into the winning team and was able to present the prototype on the big Demo Jam stage. So the expectations are already set high ;-).

SAP TechEd

In addition to the official TechEd program, dedicated UA activities will take place. The agenda is packed! The UA activities include, amongst other things, the presence as an exhibitor in the info zone to facilitate roundtable discussions and inform customers about topics like eLearning offerings, available SAP curriculum for universities or ongoing co-innovation projects or academic initiatives. The demo pod is located in Hall 8 right next to the clubhouse zone. Furthermore, several expert networking sessions will be held onsite. During these sessions, all 4 pillars (LEARN, APPLY, SHARE, RECRUIT) of the UA strategy will be covered. This includes sessions on SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud for Universities and eLearning offerings like openSAP. The sessions also function as a platform to showcase results from student competitions. A group of students will present the Fuel App, an app prototype developed on SAP HANA to illustrate gas prices and analytics. The solution works with real-time gas data from a central provider.

My personal highlights to which I am really looking forward to are the Content Show Floor Tour and the IT Backstage Tour, with a look behind the scenes, that will be offered for our UA attendees on Wednesday. But of course also the live concert with “The Fray” :-).

Next week will definitely be an exciting and eventful week. I am really looking forward to it and hope that it will be a big success for SAP.

In case you can’t make it to SAP TechEd Amsterdam this year you can also follow the keynote live or watch replays of several expert interviews and online lectures.
