Dartmouth College Hosts SAP Student Design Thinking Jam, Students Prototype Dartmouth’s “Professional Development Accelerator”

The Center for Professional Development at Dartmouth College hosted a Student Design Thinking Jam led by SAP University Alliances, giving students the opportunity to prototype Dartmouth’s new “Professional Development Accelerator. Conceived by Roger “Rog” Woolsey, Director of the Dartmouth Center for Professional Development, this innovative program aims to provide Dartmouth students with critical skills and experiences to round out their academic and personal development, better preparing them for today’s careers.

Students gathered for a full day on October 5, 2013 in Hanover, New Hampshire to participate in an SAP Student Design Thinking Jam as key input to designing and implementing the Professional Development Accelerator.

“SAP’s use of Design Thinking to accelerate development of software that delights users is a perfect fit for Dartmouth College as we design and implement our new Professional Development Accelerator,” said Rog Woolsey (pictured left).

Using Design Thinking, the students developed creative prototypes to accelerate the professional development of Dartmouth students. “We will continue to involve the students who participated today as we further refine and pilot the Professional Development Accelerator,” Rog shared.

John Baxter, SAP University Alliances Program Manager (pictured right), led the day long Design Thinking Jam. Students learned how organizations imagine, create, and innovate with Design Thinking. Then they competed to design the optimum process to accelerate their professional development, incorporating elements such as mentoring, experiential learning, leadership experiences, and software skills to map a process to enhance their readiness for today’s careers.

Dartmouth College is a member of the SAP University Alliances program. Dartmouth’s Tuck School of Business uses SAP software and University Alliances curriculum to enhance the teaching of enterprise systems and corporate governance. And University Alliances is partnering with Dartmouth to bring additional resources to the campus, enabling students to learn, apply, and share knowledge and skills such as Design Thinking to enhance their readiness as future leaders including within the SAP ecosystem.
