From June 28 to 30, Israel marked 50 years of diplomatic relations with Germany with a range of high profile technology innovation events featuring SAP. These included two events involving academic relations.

The first, on June 29, was a workshop at the Technion, Israel’s Institute of Technology, to mark five years of collaboration with the Hasso-Plattner-Institute.

Prof. Dr. Christoph Meinel, HPI's Scientific Director and CEO, gave the keynote talk on “New Computing Power to Tackle Big Data - In-Memory Data Management.” In his talk, Prof. Dr. Meinel outlined the pioneering work initially performed by a group of undergraduate students of HPI in redesigning RDBMS to take advantage of the abundance of main-memory and cores in modern servers to deliver real-time analytics on fresh data. This new approach enables many use cases, including real-time monitoring of social media.

Then on June 30,  Prof. Dr. Meinel visited Cyber Spark, Israel’s premier cyber security innovation center, where academia, cyber-incubators, Fortune 500 companies, and governments collaborate at the forefront of cyber security technologies. Prof. Dr. Meinel, HPI and SAP representatives met with Prof. Yuval Elovici, the Head of the Ben Gurion University Cyber Security Research Center, and Netta Choen, CEO, BGN Technologies Ltd , who are both leading the effort in cyber security research. There they shared the interesting projects on which they are working, including one with Deutsche Telekom.
