Landscape strategy for IS-U/CSS

Hello everyone!

Here in Brazil it’s very common to find instances of SAP ECC and SAP CCS integrated instead of the SAP CCS alone. In order to build a business case, I wonder if there is any source of documentation or best practices that would recommend the simplified landscape (with just SAP CCS). Does anybody know any information that could help me with that? What is pros and cons of both approaches?

Thank you!

Best Regards,

Eduardo Luczinski.

Eduardo:

You cannot run ISU without ECC. The options would be full ECC vs only the ECC required for ISU.

ISU requires some level of MM for device management, some level of FI for customer financials, possibly some PM and SM for service management. Those would be duplicates possibly of what is in some other consolidated ECC system. HR data might be required if any agent determination scenarios are used.

Most utilities run ISU with full ECC as the integration enables more processes and streamlines them.

regards,

bill.

Hi Nic!

Thank you very much for your answer! Especially for the SAP IS-U Cookbooks that will be very useful. However, regarding the comparison between a landscape with an instance with ECC and an instance with CSS and another landscape with just the CCS (with all the ERP functions running on the CCS) I think I still do not have an answer. If you have any information that could help me with that, it would be nice.

Hello Eduardo

As is suggested in the Cookbooks, SAP recommends the combined use of CCS with CRM ... I don't know if there will actually be publicly documented cases where only CCS was implemented ...

Please check the SAP Utilties Roadmap : link
Hopefully it will get you some more insights on the future direction (Customer Experience is largely attributed to the implementation of Hybris-products) ...

Kind regards

Nic T.

Hi Nic!

I understand. Sorry if I didn’t make myself clear. When I talk about CCS I am already considering it with CRM. The doubt was really towards the ERP. The two possible scenarios would be:

1. CCS (with CRM) + ECC. In this case, there is an instance of ECC and many functions of ERP are running on this ECC and not running on the CCS. CCS focus here is the core functions of utilities.

2. Just CCS (with CRM).
In this case, there is no instance of ECC and all ERP functions run on CCS.

Thank you very much!

Hi Bill!

I see. I can not run ISU without ECC. However, the question is: What are the pros and cons of an ECC apart (another instance/server – apart from the ISU) and what are the pros and cons of an ECC that comes with the ISU. I don’t know if I made myself clear. I have this doubt because I’ve noticed many examples of companies that have ECC apart (another server) from CCS. They have an integrated landscape instead of an unified one.

Thank you!

Pro and con is not appropriate here. If you have separate systems, then you need to build/design the integration between the systems. You would need to design business processes where multiple systems are used - and which users have access to which systems. Separate systems is a rare landscape approach - and utilized typically in very large enterprises, typically located in many jurisdictions, where finance, hr or other functions are centralized in shared services model.
