Hi,

Could anyone explain the advantages of having a factory calendar in SAP for Utilities.

Is there a provision while setting up batch jobs where i could still schedule my jobs on public holidays.

Factory calendar is used for defining how master data is scheduled, as well as many other functions.  It is NOT integrated with batch scheduling.  To do that, you would likely use a scheduling tool like Redwood CPS, Autosys or Maestro among others.

regards,

bill.

Well that's not entirely true. The base line functionality in say, SM36, allows defining in the start condition period values.

Using the Restriction Button, you can set 'always execute job'. You can also set a Calendar for instance with whatever special days you need for exotic configurations.

Crude but effective.

Thanks William and Daniel.

I am also keen to understand the benefits having a factory calendar brings versus not having one at all from a Utility perspective because otherwise as well i am able to perform all batch and scheduling functions.

factory calendar concept is useful for defining which days when no work is done - eg, no meter reading, no service order processing, no billling etc. Due dates for financial documents are determined using the calendar.  By design, it is integrated into basic transaction processing.
