The utilities industry will continue to play a key role in SAP's strategy and development topics. It is therefore important to us to provide customers, partners, and the entire SAP Utilities ecosystem with information about the planned innovations.

Hello SAP Team,
I wanted to know if there is any roadmap / plan in ISU to come up with Direct APIs or any other way by with ISU Master Data(Technical and Business) could be created when called from external non sap system. for ex, via Odata / RFCs/ BAPIs if calls come from outside sap , ISU returns list of all Master Data(Technical/Business) back to non sap system with out any intermediate wrapper or system or package.

Hello Amit, 

Depending on what you want to do you can already find back inspiration within the package MultiChannel Foundation for Utilities: SAP Business Accelerator Hub. You will also find other interesting API´s on the Business Accelerator Hub. Besides APIs there are also BAPI´s which could help you to create/find objects. 

Another solution could be the usage of Market Process Management for Utilities. Based on 1 standard API you can then create a process which is creating all wanted master data and sending back the created ID´s towards your third party system. 

So there are several solutions depending on what you want to do.

Thank You Pieter for quick response.

I have a specific German customer requirement that they want to call a existing RFC , BAPI or Odata Services(POST call) from external world and SAP ISU creates the ISU Technical Master Data (Connection obj, Premise, Installations, Premise, Device Location etc ) and returns all the numbers back to calling API. 
I am checking if there are some existing POST APIs, RFC, BAPIs available anywhere in any form which could be used directly (without any custom development) for this purpose or SAP is planning anything similar in future releases.
Could you share some highlights on such a scenario and SAP's strategy , pros, cons. I will be thankful to you.

Hello Amit,
There is an Odata API available to create IS-U technical master data, please see (delivered) roadmap item OData API for extension for Multichannel Foundation for Utilities and SAP Help Portal
Since the API makes use of the IS-U master data generator, you would need to create a master data template in the S/4HANA Utilities system as a prerequisite.

Hello Amit,

In case that your customer requirement is only about creating the technical master data and will not become much more in the future, the by Michael mentioned OData API is the very good candidate to implement this. Via the IS-U master data generator you can easily default specific ISU fields (e.g. rate category) and it is also possible to create various templates in case that you have to create different master data. Depending on the complexity to determine the values of the IS-U objects you can do this completely without any customer development.

Let me know which solution you will finally implement.

Hello Pieter,

Thanks you for inputs and providing option for creation of TMD via MCFU services.  

we proposed the same to the customer and mostly we would implement the same. But as it consumes Templates (Eprodcust), which requires some initial work to setup an Template first in the system and then use these services. Is there a way possible that without any development/setting up templates, we can create ISU TMD data. Or is there any option coming in the future releases? So that we can reduce efforts.

Hello @Amit200385,

I don´t expect any updates regarding the templates in future releases, because the MDT templates are already available for years. The effort for setting up these templates lies especially in determining the attribute values. For your case the question is if these ones are given by the calling application or if these ones have to be determined in SAP. I would expect that the calling application calls the Odata with the expected values. 
Of course objects can also be created without MDT templates, but then you will need to do several calls and so a sequence needs to be set up. Personally I find MDT templates a good way to create objects, but sometimes other ways are better. It depends on your use case. Also open for a chat about your use case.
