SAP S/4HANA 2023 FPS3: What’s in it for the Utilit...

All good things come in threes – therefore please find below (continuing my series of my previous SAP Community blog posts listed at the bottom) an overview of the main innovations dedicated to the utilities industry that are new with SAP S/4HANA FPS3 2023, the third feature pack available for SAP S/4HANA release 2023 since end of February 2025:

Once more the latest feature pack of SAP S/4HANA Utilities offers further modern and flexible analytical capabilities: In continuation of previously delivered roadmap items, you can now extract energy data management (EDM) master data for reporting in SAP Datasphere such as profile headers and profile assignments. For that purpose new CDS views are available, for details see Energy data management master data for reporting in SAP Datasphere for the utilities industry.
The second delivered road map item in the area of analytics is Native sales statistics and unbilled revenue reporting in SAP Datasphere and SAP Analytics Cloud. Existing processes and capabilities, such as statistics groups and their assignments, ODP data sources, ODP delta queue, simulation period, and IS-U mass simulation index are being reused. Several enhancements are available related to the topics Sales Interface Integration and Utilities Product Integration Layer (UPIL), and mainly targeting retailers in liberalized energy markets:
- Period control and APIs for life cycle events and contract management processes allows you to define and calculate durations and contract periods using product attributes. These appointments are shown in the utilities sales contract overview as part of S/4HANA Utilities for customer engagement
  Moreover new OData APIs are available to read utilities sales contracts and simulate pricing for utilities. For details see APIs for Utilities Products, Utilities Sales Contracts and Utilities Sales Contract Processes.
- Streamlining contract migration and bulk data processing offers the ability to migrate relevant parts of the contract history to utilities sales contracts. This history is being shown in utilities sales contract overview, where you can also cancel selected utilities sales contract items in case this is needed after migration.
- In the context of the Utilities Product Integration Layer (UPIL) and the Sales Integration Interface, it is now possible to use for instance a characteristic for a product-determined price amount to a sales product for a quantity-based price. You can maintain prices, amounts etc. directly on product level. For all details see Extending pricing capabilities.
Once more we have also incorporated enhancements to SAP S/4HANA Utilities based on improvement requests submitted by utility companies from various countries within our SAP Continuous Influence session dedicated to SAP S/4HANA Utilities. Following the developer extensibility element of SAP's Clean Core strategy, several additional cloud compliant business add-ins (BAdIs) are now available for the most used SAP enhancements (aka user-exits) in IS-U. Finally the SAP Fiori app Business Partner Financial Overview now includes a new facet "IS-U Invoicing Documents" showing utilities-industry specific data
