ABAP/Java Stack download

Hi all!

Someday last year (2005) I visited the download area at sdn and found an item in the WebAs section. The download-item contained the abap- and the java-stack in one package for windows. I did however not download the item, which was a great mistake. I'm looking for that download ever since, but can't find it. The downloads in the WebAs area are never both sides (abap and java), but only abap OR java. I'm not looking for the linux version. Can anybody help me?

thanks

Alex

Hi Alex,

Actually we never offered the complete double stack (Java and ABAP) for Windows on SDN - only the Linux version you mentioned. We planned to release something like that by end of 2005 but for numerous reasons it never worked out. In the meantime, there have been several postings from community members who successfully installed (separately) both the ABAP and Java Sneak Previews on their own.

You can check for posts in for details or for contacts to those members who were successful for tips.

Kathy, SDN

Yes, I have successfully installed both the ABAP(was 7.0) and Java(slim) stacks on my laptop. One thing, is that you should make sure to load the ABAP stack first. Then the java stack. It did not work so good for me doing it the other way around.

Thanks for the answers, now i'm encouraged to try. So can you tell, which downloads should i use. The ones above the linux one (abap/java)?

thanks again!

Are there any standarized installation guides for this szenario (installing the Java Stack AFTER the Abap Stack)?

Not really, there are separate installation guides for each, just make sure to do ABAP before java.

Why is it necessary to install the ABAP version before the Java version? If it's a prereq, it would be nice to document in the installation instructions. Please advise.

Thanks,

If I install both the ABAP and the Java stack, will I have then two Databases (SAPDB) on my system, or will the Java stack use the Database installed with the Abap stack ?

The installation of the two sneak preview is normally independent from each other. So, it would be worth a hint, but its not a prereq, because you don't need to install both.

Nevertheless, its seems not uncommon to install both stacks, so a installation guide would be very nice.

Hi guys, when installing both, the db is created on the first installation with a schema, if you look at the folder sapdb under C:\ you will see the system name NSP for the ABAP stack, when installing the java stack it will create yet another schema under this folder as J2e. So to answer the question, no it will not install the db again, but just create an additional schema. Make sense?

Please check out this great weblogs by Sugree where he explains step-by-step the installation process of the two sneak previews.

ABAP(6.40) The installation procedure is the same as 7.0
