Different Fiscal Year for Fund Management and Financial management

Hi All,

We have  one company code. Our budget period from January to December. But our fiscal year is from September to Agust. Can we assign different fiscal year variant our FM area? I read IMG activity documantation. But I am confused about special period. Please Can you explain with and example this process?

In this step, you define fiscal year variants for your FM area.

You use a fiscal year variant to specify:

  • How the system is to determine the posting periods when making postings

When making your definitions, you allocate your posting periods to the calendar year.

Note

You can define fiscal year variants for Funds Management that differ from Cash Budget Management and/or Financial Accounting.

Note the following:

If you use fiscal year variants with special periods, the variants in Funds Management and Financial Accounting must match. Otherwise, the FI postings are transferred to the period of the posting date instead of the special period of Funds Management.

Standard settings

The following fiscal year variants are created in the standard system:

  • Variants for which the fiscal year corresponds to the calendar year with an additional one, two, three, or four special periods
  • Variants for non-calendar fiscal years:
  • April through March with four special periods
  • June through July with four special periods
  • October through September with four special periods
  • Variant on a weekly basis.
This variant can only be used in the "Special Purpose Ledger

FI-SL

    " application.

Activities

    1. Check the standard fiscal year variants.
    2. Create your own variants.

Additional information

Assign the appropriate fiscal year variant to your FM areas in the next step.

Thank you very much

Hi,

You can do it, but with certain limitations. If you use variant with posting in special periods, then you'd better have the same variants, though it's not necessary. You just have to keep in mind, that posting in FI special period might result in consuming of the budget in the posting date (e.g. FI posting date 31/12/XXXX, special period 13 will result in FM period 12 and not 13). In your case, special period 13 in FI will correspond to August in FM.

Eli

Hi Eli,

Thank you for your reply.

We will make end of closing operation in period 13 of August. In this case, should I derive dummy account assignment for closing documents?

It depends... are they just FI cut-off postings or real budget-consuming transactions? If the first is correct, then you can indeed derive dummy FM, which won't even create FM document and its posting period will become irrelevant.

Only cut off documents.

Thank you Eli for your very uselful answer for me.
