The SAP Institute for Digital Government (the Institute) is now operational. The intent to establish the Institute was announced by SAP in November 2014, during an event attended by German Chancellor Angela Merkel on her visit to Australia for the G20 Summit. The Institute is physically located in Canberra in recognition of the long standing investment and commitment to SAP products and services by public sector agencies within the Australian Federal and State Government sectors.
The Institute is a global asset to promote a deeper engagement with government agencies around the world to optimise the potential of digital government. As an institute committed to digital government, the majority of this engagement will be via digital means such as the Institute's website and social media. The Canberra location will be a showcase facility where agencies will engage with the Institute in an environment committed to innovation in digital government.
The mission of the Institute is to merge digital technology invention and business insight from SAP, government organisations, academia, consulting and research organisations, for the co-development of thought leadership, complementary proof of concepts and education to promote:
• Policy insight and impact
• Delivery of services for citizens’ economic, social and safety needs
• Service delivery and fiscal excellence
The Institute will achieve this by developing thought leadership in digital government (business insight) in the context of the technology from SAP and partner organisations (inventions). It is the intersection of business insight and invention where innovation occurs. For more information the interim Institute website can be accessed at
