In India, cement is a commodity business with fragmented players, and competition for market share is intense with limiting pricing power. Mangalam Cement Limited (MCL), a wing of B.K. Birla Group, produces 43, 53, and PPC grades of cement and sought to gain operational efficiencies with an integrated platform across various departments for fast decisions based on timely business insights.


MCL decided to deploy the SAP  S/4HANA Enterprise Management solution at  4 plants, 2 captive power plants, 13 windmills, 2 captive mines, and 55 distribution centers. The deployment was supported by the SAP Enterprise Support advisory team and EY. Now MCL has evolved into an information-centric organization where decisions are driven by real-time data insight. MCL is enhancing critical business processes such as procure to pay, order to cash, and design to deliver. The integrated IT platform positions MCL to drive operational efficiencies and productivity and ultimately gain market share, all while delivering products to its consumers. In addition, the company has integrated SAP S/4HANA with the shop-floor programmable logic controller to accurately measure the volume of cement produced and weighbridges to measure freight movement.
