Parts supersession on VA21/ VA01

Hi Friends,

We want to have best of both worlds. We are using IS Automotive solution where supersession is a standard functionality. However we do not want to use DBM orders for parts sales since we wnat to have credit check functionality as well which is not availabe in DBM orders. So we are preparing quotations using VA21 and converting them to sales order using VA01,

My problem is that SAP does not support supersession on quotation processing in VA21. So if the part A if superseded by part B then in the quotation processing I get a result of supersession as the same part A and not B which is what I want. The behaviour in sales order using Va01 is correct where part A is superseded by part B.

So my question is : Has any one found a solution to this using SAP standards by way of item category config, document type config or some user exit/ BADI which has been enhanced to provide a solution to my situation?????

Any positive reply is more then welcome.

Cheers.

Hi Friends,

I have found an answer to my problem. Thought it worth while to share with all.

The standard behavior of supersession on VA01 is based on the availability situation of the material. So if the material A is available in stock then this is what will be proposed on the sales order. However since we wanted the last material on the chain to be proposed on the sales order we have changed the item category configuration and also item category determination.

The new item category that we have used for superseded part is similar to TAB and not TAN as proposed by SAP. The higher level level item category is similar to TAPA but the proposed item category works like TAB item category.

Using this configuration my problem was solved since we always want the latest member of the chain to be ordered from the vendor and we would not have this on stock.

So hope this helps.

Cheers.

Hi,

In the scenario described here change to item category may not be required.

The replacement type in supersession chains can be 'Forward' or 'Interchangeable'.

This can be specified when maintaining supersession chains in transaction PIC01. (Field Replacement - I or F)

In the case of the replacement type Forward, the replacement can only be one-way: A -> B. That means that B can replace A if A has been ordered. B cannot, however, be replaced by A if B has been ordered.

I hope this information helps.

Thanks and regards,
