See UJ,
Answer to your question depends on what you need to implement.
There are applications on the manufacturing side of Automotive industry and also on the sales side of the same.
It precisely depends on what your business requirement is. If the implementation you are talking about if for OEM's, then there are JIT, KANBAN, etc that can be looked into also they can be done using the standard ECC.
If you are looking at a solution for importers or dealers sales and servicing, you can use VMS and DBM respectively. VMS comes with ECC and DBM is an ad on which you would have to pay for.
Let the requirement be specific and answers can be specific.

Harsha

Hello,
for the same..suggest you to go through the Best practices Automotive(the latest version..what ever it is)In the same the following below Plug-ins are there, wat u can activate through Ecatt Files & BC Sets.
Like all other addons automotive also provides so many additional
functionalities like warranty claim processing (WTY ),
Just in time (JIT) , vehicle managment ( VMS) , Self billing (SBI)
etc
You can get the Auto motive Best Practices Building Blocks series from web..download it & have a look on the same.U can go through the below links----
[http://help.sap.com/content/bestpractices/industry/bestp_industry_automotive.htm]
In R/3,Automotive is an addon that SAP is providing , in earlier for
getting this functionality we were ask to to install this
addon separately , but now with ERP release we only need to
activate these addon in transaction SFW5.
Please go through the following link in help.sap.com for knowing
more about the automotive funtionalites

Dear UJ,
VMS would be an ideal choice for your client.
VMS is part of DIMP and DIMP is inturn part of ECC.
Activation of DIMP is not a one step process, there are multiple Notes that SAP has released in order to activate.
Pl use note 874471 for information regarding activation.
There are other notes that you could use, pl search after "DIMP Activation in ECC" in the same SDN, that would give you all the additional details
Hope this is helpful.
Which Client are you working for?
