Robert, what inspired you to become an SAP Mentor?
I have been almost 30 year part of the SAP community, and most people are only in collecting mode and keep their experiences private. Visiting nearly every year an SAP Teched since 1998, I discovered during these events that SAP product managers, architects, and development teams are very interested in the community's feedback. I like to build a relationship with them. However, a structured feedback program didn't exist in those days, but that changed in 2014 when SAP asked me to become part of the SAP mentor program. Since then, I, together with other SAP mentors, had a lot of discussions, feedback sessions, and interactions with board members and higher management layers, and from both sides, this was a success. I'm still very proud that I was asked and that I can still be part of the program.
What advice would like to share with other SAP community members?
I would suggest SAP community members reserve time to keep their knowledge up-to-date. Knowledge is their most significant asset as an SAP user, consultant, or specialist. With every update, SAP adds new functionality, capabilities, and innovations to its products, and you should be aware of them. Not only should you invest time in SAP knowledge, but you should also look at other areas and look for cross-connections.
