We’ve all been there: endless stakeholder requirements and not nearly enough developers to tackle them all. That’s why we continuously evolve the developer experience— to increase flexibility, improve the developer experience, and empower contribution and collaboration in a maximally productive development process. By providing intuitive tools, seamless integrations and experiences, we’re breaking down silos for a faster, more flexible development process tailored to individual skills and preferences.
Recent announcements around SAP Build have elevated the developer experience to new heights, introducing features that significantly boost productivity in fusion teams. The SAP Build lobby, already a hub for creating, deploying, monitoring, and managing SAP Build projects, now serves as the starting point for ABAP Cloud projects, as well. Designed with fusion development in mind, which is a must-have for modern application development, the SAP Build lobby makes team collaboration on enterprise applications even more seamless. With the inclusion of ABAP environments, the possibilities for innovation have never been more exciting!
Fusion development can mean different things: On the one hand, it bridges different tools and technologies, on the other, it brings together people with diverse skills and preferences to collaborate effortlessly. All in all, it allows to leverage diverse expertise and technologies to build cohesive solutions.
Picture a full-stack application with distinct frontend and backend components developed in separate environments. In this case, a developer or a fusion team could be using SAP Build Code and the ABAP environment – either on-stack (in SAP S/4HANA Cloud) or side-by-side (on SAP BTP). If adding low-code application development to the mix, the user interface could also be created in SAP Build Apps for drag-and-drop simplicity. Another example is an on-stack extension where a key user adds a custom field, which is then seamlessly exposed in a mobile application running on SAP BTP.
The SAP Build lobby streamlines these processes by exposing extension assets for further editing or consumption. With ABAP Cloud now part of this unified development experience, SAP’s fusion development approach has become even more compelling.
Figure 1: Examples of Fusion Development
Fusion development is gaining momentum because it’s a practical, adaptable approach to modern application development. It maximizes the talents of developers and non-coders alike, respecting their skill levels and preferences. This collaboration model accelerates innovation, enhances organizational agility, and reduces the pressure on IT teams — all critical in today’s fast-paced business environments.
Fusion development bridges the gap between business agility and IT governance, offering a collaborative, flexible approach to application development. It also enables via seamless and context-sensitive tool bridges to maximize developer preferences and flexibility. It’s a cornerstone of modern digital transformation, evolving to make application development more accessible, scalable, and innovative for all.
