What numbers are displayed for Top Liked Content?

On the Welcome Screen there are some lists showing the Top Liked content. Each document is prefixed by a number:

I guessed that the number of Likes is shown there but it does not cohere with that. The widget has a Refresh button in the upper right corner. I thought that maybe pressing it would show the actual number of Likes but it changed nothing.

The one in the screenshot shows the number of likes for today ("Today's Top Liked Content").  Other widgets vary in range between likes over the past week or month.

Depending on the range and age of the content shown, there might be a discrepancy between the number of likes displayed in the widget and the number of likes on the content itself: you have to click-through to see the total number of likes the content has received since it was published/posted.

Refreshing will cause any new likes accumulated to be added--or cause the list to change if another piece of content got more likes in the meantime.
