Go here:

http://www.mc.vanderbilt.edu/root/vumc.php?site=celebrateus&doc=11277

and click on the name "Harold Kendrick" to watch the video.

My wife works where he works (Vanderbilt Children's Hospital) and believe it or not, when I still worked in Nashville, I used to pick up my wife there every day and Harold I got friendly enough to buy each other caps last years.

See?

It's gonna be the next big thing ... caps are comin back !!!!!!

PS to Chris S:

No, Chris, I didn't mean "pick up my wife there" the way you're thinking. Shame on you.

haha David....I read your post WAAAAYYYYY to early in the morning.....read it twice in fact and still thought you posted...

To all who tease me about my crap....

Boy, was I way off! haha In my defense, this was all pre-coffee. haha

But yeh...even I asked about the good ol' cap at TechEd. One day, the David Halitsky Univerasal Mega Global Corp. logo will simply be the cap. 😃

Don't know if you're a "reader", Chris - but if you are, try to get through "Magister Ludi" by Herman Hesse (not in German, of course.)

What IT visionaries don't realize (except maybe Mark Finnern and his gang at the Future Salon) is that: 1) IT is based on information-theoretic and language-theoretic structures; and 2) there are precious few of these to go around (it's like what mathematicians like to call "The Law of Small Groups").

So of course it will be the case that the same info-theoretic and lang-theoretic structures will pop-up in seemingly diverse vertical sectors like ERP material management and protein "folding". (what I talked about in my Tech Ed talk to four people, one of which was you.)

And therefore, someday there will be a "Mega Corp" which understands what I just said and makes billions off that understanding, i.e. an understanding that there is only one "Bead Game" (see the Hesse reference above.)

Of course, this will be about eight hundred years from now, given the fact that it took at least five hundred years for everyday arithmetic about that long to migrate out of the royal courts of medieval Europe and into the general populace.

By the way, please ask me about the "Law of Small Groups" - it's one of my favorite topics.

Best as always

Hi Dave

Get a disreputable [Hat|https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/download/attachments/22045/gazza.JPG] . It also comes in handy when you have to water your dog, or move cattle.

On second thoughts, I may get a cap......

Cheers

Hey Gareth?

Is that you in that picture ?

If so, I am entirely deflated. I will never have enough panache and elan to wear a hat like that as well as you do. I will have to be satisfied with wearing the headgear of the humble cabbie (which I was in NYC for two years.)

Best regards

Yes, that is indeed one of the Gareth Ellems.

I believe the picture was taken during his brief career as a busker, hence the maraccas and spare hat for small change.

Unfortunately his choice of a paddock in the middle of nowhere and an audience consisting mostly of sheep (who only seemed interested in running as far away as possible or eating his spare hat) saw him eventually decide to hang up his maraccas.

Hi John,

The spare hat is so I pass muster as a local.

You know it makes sense

Hi David,

Who teases you about your cap? I love it. It totally fits you, I hope it doesn't get hip, because that would ruin it for you I think, but we may want to create one with an SAP Mentor logo on it

Please continue to have style outside of the mainstream hipsters and posers, Mark.

Hey KPN -

Here's an idea - let's start a "pay it forward" hat-dance.

I send you a cap of my choosing.

When you receive it, you send a different hat of your choosing to another SDN'er, who then has to send .... etc. (You get the idea.)

Then, when all 3 million SDN'ers have hats from other SDN'ers, we get SAP to fly us all to some exotic locale, where we will be filmed and become famous onj YouTube.

I've checked with Walldorf and they've already agreed to foot the bill for the airfare.

So what's your snail-mail address? Let's get this thing going.

I knew your cap looked familiar. Reminded me of a childhood story I loved: [Caps for Sale|http://www.amazon.com/Caps-Sale-Peddler-Monkeys-Business/dp/0064431436] The story of caps, a peddler, and some monkey business.

Marilyn - you won't believe this, but my family has a recording of my sister (a year older than I) reading from that very "Little Golden Book" at around age 4. At least I think it was a "Little Golden Book".

But weren't the caps berets? Or is that just my memory?

Anyway, it was one of our favorite stories because my Dad would do monkey-faces and gestures when he read it to us.

PS - that airfare was Lufthansa first class, right ?

Sure but you have to trade that for your points.

And no, those aren't berets, they are caps, with brims, much like yours of course.
