This was by a CEO of a well known company in TOI :

"If you are laying off you must first lay off yourself since you were responsible for bringing the organisation to this situation"

You cant sail a boat(rather a ship with 100s of people) just with one steering wheel in hand you need the crew men to help.

When you join as an employee of a organization, you make a family like relationship where you share a part of the things done and if the company prospers well, you take part of the credit. And while joining even the top order expects you to do your work with sincerity & dedication which comes only if you have the heart to work(wholeheartedness). There is one more mutual thing inbetween the organization & the Employee & that is 'Trust'.The Organization TRUST's your talent thats why you are employed and You TRUST's the Organization's credentials thats why you choose that Organization. This should not be broken at any cost where anyone of them is affected.

As i said earlier there is a relationship exists inbetween and means both good & bad should be mutually shared inbetween.

If the company makes a good profit let the employees share a % of it and if the company is under a severe loss let all the employees shed a % of salary to save it.Rather throwing some of them out.Let everyone share the loss equally, right from the CEO to the bottom.

I am working for a Japanese Company & here they have an one day layoff tale where 1 or 2 days compulsory holidays in a month and you(from the CEO to the least cadre) shed only 1 or 2 days salary rather throwing some of the employees(& their families in the streets) out.Why dont the organzations think about it? and well said
