Staffing ABAP Developers to support HCM Implementation

As the application development manager, I'm struggling with determining the number of ABAP developers I may need once we go live with our first SAP Module which happens to be HCM. We have not made many ABAP-based customizations, so I'm not sure I really need 1 full-time ABAP HCM developer. Is there a proven rule-of-thumb or metric that could be used to determine the number of ABAP developers necessary to support a "pretty" standard HCM implementation? For example, X FTE's per Y lines of code? Job responsibilities include root cause analysis, incident analysis, change analysis, etc. Any guidance one could give me would be greatly appreciated.

The answer depends on many variables - e.g.

1. How many developers you have during the development phase.

2. How problematic the development phase is.

3. Whether development continues up to the go live date

4. Whether there are developments required for after the go live date

5. How flakey or stable the implementation is.

For example, on a nine month project, I had 20 developers, implementing Logistics and FI, according to a global template. There were extensive localisations. The implemenation was not problematic, but we did have minor developments continuing up to the go live date. Some developments were rescheduled for after go-live. The implementation was pretty stable.

After go-live we retained 5 developers for one month, then reduced to 2 developers for the next two months, and ended up with half a developer to keep things ticking over.

If you want a more detalied answer, you'll need to give more detail!

No there is no number to determine the number of ABAPERs for HCM as if you want to go with the Standrad Implmentation

But by now you must be knowing the client requirment right so you must be haveing an idea on the estimates of the Size of the developers so, please have a look at it

and one more thing i suggest to have a Developer who has worked on ABAP HCM module in particular as ABAP-HR is different from normal ABAP

Hi

No rules, just the experience.

You speak abput go live, that means the project is in progress or is finishing, u should know how many developers worked in this step and how many developments were done.

Anyway during go live you should consider strange or wrong behaviors of standard transactions need to be investigated by a developer.
