Somewhat suprised to get a Devtoberfest21 Badge ...

....for completing a tutorial quite some time ago (don't remember when exactly).

Is that intentional or something off with regards to e.g. a cut-off date for when the tutorial needs to have been completed by?

My guess is that this tutorial is part of devtoberfest tutorials and whoever completes it will get this badge and points, as it's already completed some of us got these badges when they did a test job to assign badges? Or simply a bug in their system..

It is refreshing to see that surprises happen to champions, experienced bloggers and to normal folks like myself - I got two devtoberfest '21 badges. Maybe, it is advertising, e.g. to remind everyone that SAP's home country Germany used to have a popular beer festival at this time of year, or the marketing people merely had some fun with us. Either way, badges are meant to honour and motivate. So, I'd say we enjoy this little surprise and keep answering questions, completing tutorials, and solving software problems.

We will have many existing tutorials from https://developers.sap.com that you can complete to earn points in Devtoberfest 2021. Each week we will announce the tutorials that go along with the topic of the week which you can complete for points. However we didn't want to penalize those of you that might have already completed these tutorials in the past. Therefore if you are registered for Devtoberfest and completed these key tutorials in the past you are granted credit automatically for those.

Unfortunately I received internal server error when I hit post; but then it looks like they actually did go through. But now when I try to delete the duplicates -- Internal Server Error again. So hopefully the too will clean up shortly.

frdric.girod - I you have a look at your Community Profile -> Reputation section; you should see all Devtoberfest badges which you have earned. When you mouse over one it will give you the long description; which in the case of tutorials tells you which tutorial you completed to earn you these Devtoberfest points.

Thanks, for the explanation, Thomas! It's however still weird that I got the badge as I don't remember registering for Devtoberfest 2021 because I'll be on vacation for most of the month and can't really contribute to the selected topics.

8b889d0e8e6f4ed39f6c58e35664518f - In an effort to error on the side of not leaving anyone out by accident, it is possible that you could receive Devtoberfest tutorial badges even if you aren't registered for Devtoberfest. Enjoy the bonus badges! 😉

However to win prizes as part of Devtoberfest you do have to be registered (and in doing so accept the legal terms and conditions). We added some logic to the Devtoberfest Gameboard to notify people that have badges and points but haven't registered to be sure to do so.
