I just wanted to send a message to an (ex-)colleague of mine (who is a member here - I verified ) and has been of the old SDN/SCN for years as well), however the system doesn't find him.
I tried searching on his actual name (first name + family name, family name + first name, with capitals, without capitals, userid in the SAP Community, ...) but he cannot be found. However, when I check the people that I follow, he appears nicely?! Unfortunately I cannot send a direct message from there...
I do seem to get a list of users I can send messages to, but that list is (extremely) limited (and apparently not containing all people I'm following).
Could you investigate please?

Hey Jerry,
thanks for your reply. In fact he's not following me (but he wasn't in the past either) and indeed I don't see a "Send message" button when I open his profile. So I get your point, he needs to follow me for me to be able to send him a message. On the other hand he can send me messages (we tested this yesterday) because I'm following him.
Ok, case can be closed I guess. I'll ask him to follow me.
Kind regards,
Raf

Jerry - I expect that not much has changed to SAP Relay since our marathon sap connect session priori to launch...I had a back and forth demonstration with a colleague of mine yesterday, just trying to show him how it works and we ran into all of the same quirks.
Consider the fact that we are both SAP employees and even though I am on Windows 10 and he's on a MacBook, our usual chat conversations take place in Skype. Moderators have some special privileges in the new community model, but in principal what is really missing here is a simple and fast way to send someone a message, be sufficiently informed (notification email) that you have received a message from a fellow community member, and be able to navigate directly into the message and respond. Right now we more or less have none of these basic expectations.

Thanks for your answers, but a) I'm already following him and b) we used to communicate in the "old" SCN without any problems so that makes me think there's either a bug or a new "feature" here.
It seems I can "chat" with 10 people... but I have 37 followers and I'm following 24, so where's the logic? Of those 10 I can "chat" with I do follow a couple, but not all. So the 10 doesn't exist of the overlapping ones.

Hi Raf,
you need to follow the other person in order to be able to send him/her a direct message. You can find the "Follow" button in the other person's profile.

Yes, Your Correct, I will Agree with you Raf Boudewijns , There is no meaning of showing somebody fallowing some others followers In Profile page.

Hi Raf,
I was just testing this....when you got the subject up....and I was able to send a direct message successfully! Not sure why you are facing the problem....And for the 10 people limitation...I guess that's not true as well...I have 11 followers and I can see all 11 in the list....Do you get any error of some sort?
Regards,
JP

I don't get an error message...
Here are the steps I took:
Hi, Raf:
You mentioned that you follow him...but does he follow you still? You can only DM people who follow you.
Also, regarding the 10 users -- is it possible that you are attempting to send a group chat instead of a direct chat? The group chat has a limitation of 10 people.
One thing that might help me understand the issue: If you go to your profile and select your followers, do you see his name? If so, could you click on his name? When you get to his profile, do you see whether you have a follow/unfollow option and a "send a message" button?
Best regards,
--Jerry
I think, the right answer is if you want to chat or want to avail services like send direct message, then it was also in the old SCN that, that friend of yours needed to follow you as you are the one willing to send message/chat. On the other hand, as you are already following, that you have mentioned, so that friend of yours can send you Chat message in this scenario, but he is to follow you in order for you to send-direct-message/chat with him.
Thanks,
Kaushik
