Hello,
We have a VPN setup in place for our SAprouter.
Initially we had SNC in place which required certificate renewal every year.
Since VPN connections use hardware encryption; will we still need to reapply the certificate every year?
The certificate renewal mail received from SAP also says the folowing:
"IF YOU USE THIS SAPROUTER WITH SECURE NETWORK COMMUNICATION (NOT VPN)
THIS WILL MEAN THAT YOU CAN NO LONGER USE THIS SAPROUTER TO ESTABLISH A
CONNECTION TO THE SAP SUPPORT."
Does this mean that certificate renewal is ONLY for SNC connections?
Pls. help.
Thanks,
Saba.

Hi,
The certificate renewal is required for saprouter only not related to VPN means it applicable to SNC
Thanks & Regards,

Hi,
Thanks for the reply...like you said..certificates are not needed for VPN connections, but recently our connection (VPN) was'nt working and after renewing the certificate everything went fine.
So I'm really confused...coz ideally no certificate should be requried for a VPN connection:(
thanks,
saba.
Hi,
The VPN connection is handled by a firewall or vpn device, not by the saprouter.
You do not need a certificate to setup the vpn connection, SAP does this with a shared secret (password).
If you use a VPN connection, your traffic is encrypted and there is no need anymore to configure the saprouter to use SNC.
You should check your saprouter config to see if SNC is still enabled. If it is, it still uses a certificate and it will complain when the certificate has expired.
I hope this helps.
Kind regards,
Dagwin
