Remote connection by SAP vendor into customer SAP server

Hello,

My company is getting an external vendor to assist with some SAP development work. The vendor requested possibility to do fixing partly onsite/offshore. Hence my question on remote access.

I understand that SAP router details and SAP username / password will need to be provided to SAP vendor to remotely access customer's SAP server.

I was told by my basis team that in addition the SAP vendor will need :

1. Secure connection to customer's network eg: connect via VPN/Citrix or

2. Secure connection to SAP

I am keen to explore how option 2 works (eg: is there a backend tool in Service marketplace that allows this? Does vendor require a Market serviceplace user id/password too?) as my basis folks don't have experience with this option.

Any inputs welcomed.

regards,

Melissa

Hi Varadharajan,

Thank you for your post. Just one more clarification:

This method is used by SAP support team to connect to ur network.

Can a 3rd party SAP vendor make use of this option besides SAP support team?

Hi Melissa,

Yes, its very much possible for any remote user to connect to our SAP systems through SAPRouter provided they satisfy the following conditions.

1. The remote user should have a static public ip. Your firewall should allow this ip to enter into ur network.

2. The public ip of the remote user should be given access in ur SAPRouter. This can be done by adding the remote user's public ip in the SAPROUTTAB file in the SAPRouter.

3. The remote user should configure his SAPUI with ur SAPRouter string (/H/<public IP of ur SAP Router>/S/<SAP router port>/H/) and then only he will be able to connect to ur SAP systems.

This [SAP online link|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/4f/992df1446d11d189700000e8322d00/content.htm] will give a fair idea on this topic.

Hope this helps you clarify ur queries.

Hi,

1. Secure connection to customer's network eg: connect via VPN/Citrix or

Using this method, u allow the customers at the remote site to connect to ur network with the help of the VPN sotware like SonicWall, Juniper and so on after an authentication. The users will then be able to access ur systems (based on the access allowed through the VPN software). This method would be the good one if u have multiple users as well as multiple systems. You need to contact with the vendors for this.

2. Secure connection to SAP

This method is used by SAP support team to connect to ur network. This makes use of the SAPRouter services (which will have a public ip and SAP support team will be acessing this public ip to come into ur network). This needs some knowledge in setting up the SAPRouter.

Hope this helps.
