The problem recurs and I believe, it's linked to the timing of question being edited at the moment an answer is submitted
I've encountered the same issue
This just happened to me earlier today, although I don't think any timeout was involved. I think I hit some shortcut key on my keyboard by accident, which closed out the input box I was writing into. I refreshed the page, hoping it would bring it back with my already written text saved, but it didn't, so I started over. When I hit "submit" I saw the previous text and new text combined into a single answer.
