Persistent error messages / slow performance

This has been going on since last year: errors pop-up (and then go away) doing various activities on SCN and the website appears sluggish in general.

1. Clicking on Notifications for the first time today - the familiar Smug Team Meeting screen appears claiming I need to "logon to see notifications". The screen sits there for a few seconds (enough to capture a screenshot leisurely), then finally notifications open.

2. Clicking on someone's profile, after a second or two, the red error "Failed to load linked profiles" appears out of nowhere.

3. Good old "Internal error" appears sporadically when opening a question. (Works fine after a refresh.)

4. Overall lagging when voting or posting answers/comments: noticeable delay between clicking the buttons and seeing the result.

Browser is FF, our Internet connection is good, so I doubt the problem is on my side. Same result from home or office too. Since errors resolve by themselves it's not critical but still it's rather annoying and doesn't inspire confidence in the platform.

After going to Notifications, the "Login to see your activity" screen is shown for full 5 seconds. Not sure what's happening in the background at that time but if this is just some slow authentication process then simply don't show this screen, show "you're being forwarded..." or something message. UI 101: show accurate messages to the users.

Update (can't edit the question): the profile error has been resolved but the rest remains. Even if notifications take some time to load (which is understandable), just show a spinning wheel or some other picture than "login", which has inaccurate message.

Also, on the main page, while it's loading it usually shows only top and bottom part of the screen, then slowly the middle part appears. On some days, it doesn't and then the page just looks like this:

Hi,

For the linking message on the profile the team is aware of it and we have it scheduled for fixing. It happens only if you are not authenticated.

Best,

Gabi

Hi Gabriella, not sure what you meant by "not authenticated" but I've just clicked on your name and was taken to your profile where the same error appeared. Obviously I am logged in since I'm able to type this comment immediately afterwards.
