Hi I had to change my password today. Could you explain why a password needs to be exactly 8 characters and cannot be longer?
Request clarification before answering.

It's completely depends on password policies of the software which you're using (could be SAP,oracle,Microsoft server or so on ) .

I'm sorry, I thought by posting in the SCN discipline it would be clear that I was talking about the SCN password policy.
See the screen below. Let me rephrase the question. Why does the SAP SCN system has a password policy with password that need to be exactly 8 characters, and not at least 8 characters.Any hacker would be delighted to know that he only has to test for 8 digit passwords.
