Not able to open specific help at help.sap.com

Has anyone faced this problem ? I go to site help.sap.com , Documentation -> R/3 -> take any version -> Click on English(language)

It opens a new browser and blank page. Loading the page is done.

I am running Windows 2000. Can anybody at least guide me, to whom should I direct this question ?

I have tried this with both Firefox and Internet Explore(despised) and they have the same reaction.

Is there any setting that I need to do , or is it one of those crappy bugs in those service packs.

Too frustrating, to not able to view help.sap.com

Subramanian V.

Hello Subramanian,

is it a corporate internet access? Probably there is a Proxy blocking some content? Do you have other PC's in the network where it's running fine?

Gregor

Hello -

I have an answer to the problem (at least in my case) It turns out it was related to settings in Norton Firewall. While I had permitted help.sap.com, I also had to create a permit entry for "/" (just forward slash)

Also, contrary to my previous post, help was displaying properly when I disabled the firewall. The key learning there was to delete temporary internet files everytime I re-tested the problem.

So now, having added the forward slash entry for the help.sap.com site, I can view all help content while keeping add blocking and firewall etc enabled.

Hope this helps,

David

Hi David,

I have never added any of these entries in Norton Firewall. Nevertheless, I shall test and let you know. Thanks again for the insight. At least, you say there is light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks.

I also have an IBM thinkpad, XP with Svc pack 2. I am also unable to open specific help.sap.com help pages. I am stumped as to why this problem exists.

I am having the same exact problem with some PCs in my environment. All are IBM ThinkPads with Win XP w/ SP2. Interestingly, I tested 2 identical T41 laptops and on one specific help topics display fine and the other they do not. The working PC has a newer version of the IBM base preload, but both have same IE settings - Both have firewall and ad blocking active - On the PC that's not working I also added sap.help.com to permitted sites and it still didn't help. In fact disabling the firewall made no difference.

Any insight to this would be appreciated.

Thanks,

David

In fact, I have another PC which connects to the internet through this PC, and absolutely everthing works fine in that.

Thanks.

are the security settings of the browsers different?

No. In fact, they are the same. However, I am not able to view in any of these browsers.

Can Norton Antivirus settings be an issue ?

You don't have by any chance a popup blocker or eg the new MS antispyware installed?

First of all thanks to you and Gregor for helping me solve this problem. I am sure this issue can be easily solved if the system was in front of you guys.

Coming back to the issue at had, I do have the Google Toolbar, but for help.sap.com, I have allowed sites for popup in the toolbar. This is for Internet Explorer.

Does MS antispyware get installed with the various updates downloaded by microsoft during idle time ?

The MS anti spyware is still in beta and it seems that'll be part of MIE 7. I hope that it'll be better byy then, since it performance bad and gives starnge problems.
