As of 6/23/15 6:14 am PDT, I'm unable to mark items as read in my Communications stream.
Update: the delay in processing the activity seems to be around 15 minutes.
Request clarification before answering.

And here we go again... Communications tab is not updating properly. Read the 'new' updates, tab away, and they are instantly marked as unread again.
