Hello All ,
With almost One year of completion with the New SCN I would like to share my views regarding the experience with it and I would also like to hear from other members as well. And any further suggestion or feature you all desire that could have been with our New SCN ( Just curious to know ).
My experience is as follows:
Truly speaking the New SCN was out of my head during my earlier times with it.
I hated it like a bad smell and was desperately waiting for the SCN to be reverted to its Classical Flavour.
And I am not alone with this same experience.
These are the below links with similar ideology for the New SCN :

Bad exeperience with the new sitehttp://scn.sap.com/thread/3145606
Where is the old SDN ??????and many more like this ...
I think many like me where annoyed with this . I have even seen a Documented criticizing the New SCN at its earlier stage.
I felt searching in Old SCN was simpler , just to CTRL + F for your topic and hit the link for the same.
But there is very popular saying that time heals everything , similarly I started getting used to with this New , Awesome , Fluid ( due to JIVE ) , Graphical SCN.
I started liking it very much .
With much like a popular social networking site like interface it became very easy and interesting for use.
And nothing to say about this fantastic link by Keith Elliot which made by life easy with the New SCN.
http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-18971
And as already mention in this document about the new features of SCN http://scn.sap.com/community/getting-started/blog/2012/03/19/impressions-about-the-new-scn .
I like this tool boxes very much.
Messaging features are also up to the mark and I like using them very much.
One additional feature which I would desire is an Instant Messenger option.
Five Stars for the New SCN.
Wishing to listen from you all
Prasanna, thank you for sharing. Just a hint - you could've posted it as a blog and gotten some points for it. This very much fits the blog definition and, by the way, is better written than some other ones out there.
Personally I still can't say I trully "like" New SCN. But I came to terms with it and accepted it just like an annoying drunk uncle whom you secretely wish away but hey - he's family, so what do you do?
Navigation has been a problem since day one and it's still the same. Ratings/Likes were supposed to be huge, but other than for giving points to someone, I'm not sure what they're for really. Where is the "best rated", "most liked", etc. content?
I've actually found great value in "following" as now I can see what others liked. But then you need to know whom to follow and that kind of goes against the whole idea of community.

Hello Jelena ,
First of all very thanks for your motivating comments

Very thanks for your complements regarding this thread.
Actually I don't use to write that much so I thought that this stuff might not do good as a Blog.

Must say nice example to compare with
Where is the "best rated", "most liked", etc. content?
Am Sure the mentors will be looking into the matter.
But many new things like member of the month , trending people , trending content are into the game now
But then you need to know whom to follow and that kind of goes against the whole idea of community.
That indeed depends on one's capability to access other individuals.
As we celebrate the 2nd anniversary of this discussion, I once again agree with Colleen on the chat and without the chat an online/offline indicator would not be of much use IMHO. I find it of limited value in IM applications too since "my PC is on" is not a reliable indicator that the person is actually available or willing to communicate.
Regarding MOM it sounds like a good idea to accept nominations from any SCN member but the final decision should be made by the "committee" of moderators, editors, etc., not by a majority vote. We could have some kind of a "people choice" award once a year though just for fun.

As I have already mention in one of my comments to this SDN-SCN bridging thread ,
And one more suggestion , Selection process of Member of Month should involve some participation of fellow SDNers also , I mean something like voting. So , that we can also get involved in the process.
It can't be denied that there can be discrepancies with this approach but a healthy rules and regulations will carry this whole process comfortably I guess
It would be great if fellow SCNers have some kind of involvement in MOM selection procedure. No doubt this approach will demand a big overhaul ( Kind of some SAP Up-gradation Project ) in the existing MOM selection procedure but it will bring a bit of "people choice" kinda flavor into the whole process.

I don't see how an indicator, if the user is currently online, has any link to users expecting to getting their solution via spoonfeeding.
I kind of like the idea of having a little green icon or something in the hover profile overview to see, if my fellow SCNler is currently online. So if this would find its way to the Idea Place I'd give it my vote.
The chat thing on the other hand: in the thread, that was created for this somewhere, I stated my "nope" already. Colleen summarized the whole thing pretty spot on.

I would like to have an Online/Offline/Away Indicator option like we have in messengers like Lync.
Green / Red / Orange.

Perhaps suggest this on SCN Innovation and Enhancements: Ideas, unless someone has already.

This has been raised and discussed before. Concern is from some regular members who would be bombarded with IM sessions. However, there was an opt-in process to chat then it might be a better approach then having to follow each other to send a direct message.
The other concern is assistance and discussion is taken offline and limited to a few people involved in the discussion. The person asking for assistance may miss opportunity to get a few different inputs - especially on complex topics as the discussion evolves. The community as a whole would not see this - in a way it could become duplicate content - everyone asking the same questions but none of it posted in SCN as it is all via chat. SCN becomes a risk of becoming a chat platform
These are worse case scenarios. Again, I see why members might like the IM platform but nothing is stopping them from updating their profiles for the IM platform (even skype) and taking the conversation off SCN. I just don't see how the collective of the community would benefit from this.

Colleen
I would like to have an Online/Offline/Away Indicator option
What for you need this ? The very purpose of having this forum is to share the knowledge among all and if the option what you are expecting is provided, then each and everybody would interact directly with some members and this will affect the new members to need assistance from SCN.
I just don't see how the collective of the community would benefit from this.
Definitely, this community would not benefit from that and every member would expect spoon feeding without searching.

Hi Prasanna ,
I would like to add some more points with my earlier comments.
Retrieval of Contacts is very slow when we are sending any Personal message to any of our contacts in SCN. When we provide the initial alphabets of contact person while sending any message , instead of searching for the contacts maintained only in our list it searches for the whole people in SCN forums starting with that alphabets , which makes things slower .
And one more suggestion , Selection process of Member of Month should involve some participation of fellow SDNers also , I mean something like voting. So , that we can also get involved in the process.

Voting for member of the month does sound great in principal but can have some drawbacks:
At the same time, there could be merits in opening up nominations to the wider community as it might draw out a few hidden gems who raise the standards of SCN but go under the radar.
I do think Global Moderators/SCN administrators need to have the ability to vet nominations and make the final decision.

Colleen

- element of surprise for the MoM and the community disappears unless the voting function is hidden from the community (i.e allow community to nominate someone and provide justification)
Hi Dev
I see the Moderator Spotlight a bit different to the MoM. The spotlight seems like a chance to get to know more about a Moderator (they already have a little M on their account and name listed in the space they moderate). So I can see why the community can go in and ask names.
I see the MoM as more of a reward for contribution and participation to SCN so you would like to have some element of surprise.

Colleen
Thanks for sharing.
In addition to Keith's , there's an linked from the site footer. SCN has added almost 100 new spaces since March and only the site index gets updated.
Also, do you know about the custom Google search for SCN and related sites like help.sap.com? There's actually a few ways to search SCN that you might not be aware of:

Hello Prasanna ,
Mine was also a similar kinda experience.
I even posted for my problem:
http://scn.sap.com/thread/3164159
But now I am pretty well adjusted with the New SCN and its features and I like it.
