Hi,
I have a friend who is a Singapore PR.
She worked in non-SAP in IT for the past 10 yrs.
Recently she learned ABAP(not certified).
She dont have the experience working in a company.
she has ABAP knowledge and can do the job.
How can she break into the market? Will anyone share your experience how you started working in ABAP without the experience.
Thank you so much for your reply.

I too beleive that if you are having about 10 years of experience as an IT guy , then definately one would have developed that understanding of the function as well .
In ABAP what i have experienced is that if you are having that business clarity or fucntion knowledge the you would think in a more effective way as compared to a newbie . As you would be aware what the problems coule be and what new would cropp in over a period of time .
As a fresher yes you can start in ABAP but it would make your friend diffrent from the masses based on his 10 years of experience .
Good luck .....

Back in 2000 I worked with an ABAPer who said he went to a customer's site and said he was A Builder And Plumber and then they sat him down at a terminal and told him to start coding...
he never looked back...

Similar to Matt, I went to work for a very large consulting firm in '96 as an 'experienced hire', based on serving 5 years as a Marine Corps Officer, when there was ahuge demand for resources, qualified or not. I had no SAP experience but was a self-motivated and fast learner. My engineering degree also helped.
I would expect that your friend could leverage that 10 years of experience with the right company. I might certainly hire a less ABAP-experienced person with a good IT background over a 'ceritified' newbie. Good luck.

I got into SAP by applying for a job with an enduser who was willing to train me. This was in '97 when there was a severe shortage of people with SAP knowledge.
At this time, however, to my knowledge at least, there is no shortage of ABAP programmers.
