How is "SCN Technology News" content curated?

The "SCN Technology news" newsletter (see tiny Newsletters button in the top right corner) seems like a good idea - SCN became so vast and it's helpful to receive a digest once in a while. And in the past this subscription did highlight some items that I would otherwise missed.

But for some reason the last issue featured two Business Trends marketing blogs that hardly qualify as "technology news" (or even any news for that matter):

4. Internet of Things Promotes Business Model Innovation

In the next few years, the Internet of Things (IoT) could drastically change the way modern businesses operate, market, track metrics, manufacture products, and more. In addition, globalization, combined with IoT, could further innovate business processes.

5. Disruption Paves the Way for Change

Keeping pace with disruption requires rapid innovation, as well as the agility to understand in real time what's working and what's not. When you can innovate effectively, you can reimagine everything. And many companies are successfully innovating right now.

Is there a "slow news month" or no better SCN technology related content to feature in these subscriptions? Very disappointing.

Hi Jelena,

I don't subscribe to the 'newsletter' so I can't comment on the content.  However, I can ask you WHY???

You mean why do I subscribe? Dunno, maybe I just like receiving emails. Seemed like a good concept in the beginning.

But, of course, if this is turning into "SCN Marketing News" then even I would hit "Unsubscribe" faster than one can say "internet of things". Just thought I'd give whoever is responsible a chance to rectify this.

Hi Jelena,

Thanks for your note. I've been editing/curating the content for the Technology Newsletter for the last two years.

Generally, the content is curated based on what's happening in the Community and the quality of blog posts in general.

With that in mind, "Technology" isn't necessarily just representative of solidly tech heavy topics or How-to content, but trends in the technology realm as well.

By that measure, the two pieces you cited above were very good blog posts that represent not only what some members of the Community are discussing, but also trends in technology that many people are following.

I'm sorry to hear you were disappointed in that particular issue. I do strive to include a balance of articles each time. If there was something I overlooked, please let me know.

And thank you for your interest and support in the Newsletter.

Best Regards,

Catherine LaCroix

Catherine, thanks for clarification. OK, so if this is the understanding of "technology news" on SCN then I'll unsubscribe.

Marketing content with no information on "the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes" (Google's definition of "technology") does not add any value for me, sorry.

I understand your position, however, I don't promote marketing content in the newsletter. Those blogs were trend pieces and far from marketing content.

I'm sorry you feel that the newsletter no longer serves your needs.

Regards,

Catherine

Former Member , could you possibly help me unsubscribe from this newsletter permanently? I've used the "unsubscribe" link 3 times already and got the confirmation by email (I even saved the confirmation last time but unfortunately lost it in the Outlook upgrade). Despite that, I keep getting this newsletter. What gives?

My email is in the profile. Thank you!

I'll see what I can do. I don't manage the list, however, so it might take another cycle.
