How can I change my Display Name ?

Hi,

How can I change my Display Name?

I tried to change it from My Profile but it does not give an option to cvhange my Display name.

Any suggestions will be appreciated!

I had been trying to change my display name for the past 1 year. I had sent my request thrice but my requests were rejected by SDN and yesterday I sent again my request without any hope,but luckily, they had accepted my request and changed my display name today.

You cannot change but if you send a mail to sdn at sap dot com giving your existing user id, it can be changed.

I distinctly remember changing my Display name myself in My profile some time back.has something changed in the last year or so to prevent us from doing this?

Just to clarify, the full name assigned to my user id still remains as it is but I have changed the DISPLAY name to Harish T K - I did this myself and did not need to send email to anybody.

It has been possible in the past. Unfortunately this function was often abused by points hunters to regularly change their visible identity. I beleive that's why you cannot do it yourself anymore.

Hmmm.. yet another problem caused by the infamous "points" system then -

Actually, it wasn't the points system to blame this time. It was some person who decided they were mad at Craig Cmehil and started creating userids using the display name Craig Cmehil and posting garbage under that userid. After a few deletions, they even went after me (since they realized I am the great deleter). It was decided to implement two changes - one is during registration, there is a check to see if the display name you propose is already used by an existing account. If so, you are blocked from creating the new userid. The second was to lock out the ability to change your own display name once the account is created.

As someone else pointed out, the only way to get an existing account changed is to write to the help address. Even so, the poeple at that address will check first to see if the display name is already used and write back to you that they can't make the change if it is. Should you be considering a name change, it is best to write in with several possible choices for a new name. With over 2 million userids in the system, many you might want to use are already taken.

I guess I am lucky that I decided to change my display name when I did. These constraints are a bit irritating, but unavoidable I guess, given such juvenile behaviour exhibited by the multitude.
