I am one of these users that do not like it very much when I have to wait for something longer than needed. While I like the new SCN very much I am also very annoyed by its slow page rendering.
Now when it comes to speed, everybody has different expectations. Also the actual speed on every device may differ and is also effected by the internet connection, by the power and kind of device you use, the browser used etc.
So my question is if you also think that the site is responding slowly whatever you do and if something could be tweaked somewhere to improve the speed.
When I measure loading times using the Chrome developer tools I get times betwen 2s and 10s to fully load a page. What are optimal times you can expect when using good hardware, the right browser and a fast internet connection?
I am using Chrome on Windows 7, having a quite fast laptop and corporate LAN but slowed down through a firewall / proxy server.
There was a thread about SCN performance a few months ago. While one particular problem with IE7 might have been solved, I'd still rate overall performance as "slow" on average (it seem to fluctuate greatly during the day). Every click is like "one Mississippi, two Mississippi...".
I don't have Chrome, but it works faster with Firefox than with IE8 on the same PC. Firefox add-ons remove ads and other "fluff", might be one of the reasons...

Hi Mark,
IMHO, SCN is slow. I'm sure is not a problem of the network I use, as I use a few across different locations (different ISP, etc).
It could be that the system is not really fast enough for the modern days.
But we can always hope that SAP will put the SCN in memory maybe using SAP HANA. That may help make everything faster — That would be a total different use case for SAP HANA, I admit.
The question that I hear the most is: How can Google retrieve results in less than 1 second, and just searching for something at SCN takes way much longer?
And to be honest, that is a good question.

Yes it is, but it sure is a rhetorical one. Do a http-trace for both of 'em , or for a snippet, compare the html sourcecode-contents.
SCN --> billions of java scripts, slowing down the client immensely; now add a company proxy with content scanning going through all that stuff beforehand
Google --> not billions of java scripts, not slowing down the client immensely
Hi Mark,
I've also noticed some differences between working on my corporate LAN and form home/outside.
I also notice periods of slowness depending on when I'm using the site (what time, which day).
I'm also on Chrome with Windows 7. Overall, Chrome has been the best browser for me in terms of speed/performance when using SCN (and I'm on all day) when compared to all the other major browsers.
