I have observed that now the rules have changed , your badge ( type of contributor ) would depend on your past 12 months of contribution and not on life time contribution .
so now one needs to be a constant performer to achieve that "TAG" badge to his/her profile .
What are the feelings of other members for the same ?
Happy weekend ...

Get rid of them and the points...maybe we'd see alot fewer whiny posts about recognition and individual's feelings being hurt...

The ponits (or abdges that follow) really don't mean much. I once got six pnoits for just responding to the question and all I asked was for him to explain his requirements in more detail. On the other hand, a detailed reply which I was sure would solve the problem, did not get anything. One or two guys said "Thank you, that solved the problem" and that was really more valuable than potins.

As of my knowledge, badges never given for life time points in SDN, i think it changed from last calender year to last 12 months.
Constant Performances only matters in any field, same follows in here. so nothing new to feel much about it

The change to a rolling 12 months for badge calculation was done last year. The original calculation was done strictly on a Jan. 1 to Dec. 31 calandar year basis. The change was done after a lot of people complained that they were going to lose their badges once we arrived at Jan. 1, and they thought that was unfair (hence the birth of a new SDN term called "points badgers" appeared around that time). An additional change to allow you to see your last 12 months was just introduced but the calculation remains the same.
I absolutely don't care !
I answer questions when the question is interesting to me and the OP has done his homework.

That's my general approach also and it has not prevented myself from getting recognition ponits. A lot of folks forget that to be "recognized" you need to do something first worth recognition.
I would agrue it's better to only answer one complex question a year and provide one complex solution that impacts everyone in that area, than try to answer 1000 questions in a year that could have been answered by training. The said part is the first person will be lucky to have 6 or 10 points and the other person might have the "silver badge".
Quality is much harder to measure than quantity. Fortuantely there seems to be an honest effort to move the recognition system in the long run(not going happen today) towards one that puts weight on quality of contribution for forum posts. The jury though is still out on what the answer to that problem is. However it's probably something less radical than get rid of current system entirely.
Take care,
Stephen
its really nice to see the attitude " i dont care " .. " Quality of solution " ....
What really should matter is the quality and not the number of posts " well said stephen ".
moreover i have also observed that moderators are also playing a vital role by warning the members and locking unusual posts , which would definately move the focus towards quality and not simply posting what ever it is .....
I am impressed to view the comments made by all .....
Cheers to quality ...
