Hello, SDN
I have to connect our SAP-BI 7.00 on ORACLE to external MS-SQL Server2005 through Internet in order to extrakt data from it and upload data into BI-System.
I read some notes like 512739 or 400818 and i didn't find any word about Internet or WAN, encryption, ports and so on.
Is it generally possible to do that? Or is it only for Intranet? What about encryption?
Many thanks in adwance for you help
best regards
Vladimir
Request clarification before answering.
Hello Vladimir,
It is possible to connect to an SQL Server over the Internet or a WAN connection.
You will need to make adjustments on the firwalls at both ends of the connection to allow traffic between the SQL Server and the Oracle server. SQL Server usually communicates over port 1633.
If you want the traffic between the two systems secured/encrypted, you will need to establisch a VPN tunnel between the two sites or systems.
An alternative to establishing a VPN tunnel is to use a saprouter with SNC at each site.
Kind regards,
Dagwin
