I'm sure there are tons of chess players among SDN members.

I usually visit chess.com to play live chess from people around the world.

My current rating is about 1500 but getting a little better everyday.

Just want to know if there are any chess master in here.

Till 1990s, I had participated in local chess competitions and won prizes but after that I could not concentrate much on that. Will have to start again

I'm usually online at night (PST), I will send an invite to KPN user ID tonight. I usually play a 15 min. game format.

I tried looking for your ID KPN last night to send an invite but no hits. If you want a good game and an easy win you can send me an invite my user ID is "Reckless".

Yop,

I used to play till early 2000's.

My latest ELO rating was 1910. I can't tell you about my playing style, as I didn't really have one ! Tried many different openings, state of minds etc. Mostly fond of gambit openings, which couldn't work as I was more like a conservative player

I like chess and played few times. Didn't play any major tournaments, only with cousins or friends whenever I get time.

Can't play chess... don't have the patience... usually finish slaping th bord and sulking in the corner....

Hanging around the marketing or sales departments of a company implementing SAP is a good start to find end users to play chess against if you want to score. Tell the nice ones a bit about arrays, invite them for coffee and a casual game of chess.

Tip: Search youtube for "Four Move Checkmate" => No more frustration. No more sulking.

Oo mann... This is a real brainy stuff.

I used to play chess in early 90's till 2004.. I had ELO ratings nearly 2200.. I was state camp and played on national level also. My fav line against e4 was c5 Scilian defence may be opt to Dragon or Richer rauzer.

and an alternative was e6 french defence.. Now a days, i still play on some chess servers like Playchess. But get less time in playing these days.

>>> So who is on the "Deep Light Coffee Corner team"? (Late joiners also welcome!)

I will join it for sure...

>> Now ur reply is 1. e2 - e4 c7-c5..

e2 - e4

I "retired" in 1996 after playing regularly for ten years. Great sport, but I just didn't have the patience and time any more. By the way, not a master (peak at 1700, now probably 1200...if you're talking about ELO)

Oh yeah e2 - e4 - loved the guico piano opening. It doesn't work too well with players with high ratings.

You haven't made a move...?

I will set up the chess game in my lab system... (full backup and recovery service, incase you have kids who can (and do) knock a chess-board over when they are in a bad mood... :-).

The Deep Light Coffee People vs. John&Thomas...

Of course, it might take the "Deep Light team" some time to document and agree on a decision for a move... but a few simple rules could help (like a slow clock, and <comment> tags, and a polling system for each move...?).

Lovely idea for a community project which does not produce dubious coding... (just joking)

So who is on the "Deep Light Coffee Corner team"? (Late joiners also welcome!)

> e2 - e4

... okay... we need to google "guico piano opening"...

OK, I have to leave soon for vacation and won't be checking back in till next Tuesday. Hopefully somebody can post the actual moves for the guico piano opening.

Have a Happy Halloween Everyone! Can you believe it's also Nevada Day and we get that day off on Friday! Awesome!

Oh dash! Next Tuesday!!!

Well, then you owe us a bit of tolerance for when "The Deep Light Coffee Team" cannot decide on a move for a few days each time either....

I don't think next Tuesday presents any problem, as we will still be busy with the Project Charter for a while..

Cheers,

Julius

Guico Pieno and Greco analysis Line is something like this

>>> 1. e4-e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Bc5 4. c3 or b4(converts to Evans gambit).

THis is usual line for Greco and Guico Pieno.

You mean e7-e5

With whites, I used to always open either with e4 or c4, never d4 for some reason, just didn't feel comfortable.

2200, that is very strong, I used to play against such an opponent once or twice, no chance whatsoever despite utmost effort.

Cheers

:).... i mean c5 .. )..

I played a lot of chess and still in touch so, but ya i don't play like i used to play earlier. I prefer e4 or c4.

In e4 my fav line was something same as Greco analysis or preferred Ruy Lopez sometime.

and with d4 Semi Slav if opponet is strong otherwise any unusual stuff to get an advantage :).
