Hi,

I would like to check out the SCN beta, but it won't let me register.

I keep getting a session expired error.

Any help appreciated.

Regards,

Johan

Hello Johan,

Can you please share a screen shot of the error and the URL? Thanks a lot for your interest in testing beta.

Hi Moshe,

I am not sure which link / detail is relevant for you, so here is the sequence of events:

  1. I click the link in the invitation email, and this opens: SAP Community beta
  2. I click the Try out the new SCN link and this opens: Participating in Open Beta | Community Beta
  3. I click the So as of May 17, please jump in and start testing link and this opens:
  4. I click on the
    SAP Answers
    link and this opens: https://accounts.sap.com/saml2/idp/sso/accounts.sap.com
  5. I click the Register button and this opens: https://accounts.sap.com/ui/upgraderegistration/submit

This happens in two different browsers.

Johan

Thank you for this detailed feedback. @Yaniv_bar Can you please look into and confirm it's a bug before I add it to the known bugs' list? Thanks a lot, Moshe

Hi, Johan,

I tried to reproduce your issue with an existing logged in session, per the detailed information you have provided (thanks so much for that!), however I couldn't reproduce it.

Can you tell if the problem still persists?

And if so perhaps you can drop me an email, and we can schedule a call to reproduce together in a sharing session or etc.?

Also it would help if you can roughly tell when you encountered this issue (date / time / timezone) - I can check if there were any availability or performance at that time.

Can you also tell on which browsers / systems you have tried and reproduced this? I currently tested on Win7, FF (latest version) and it worked fine.

, I cannot categorize this as a bug, so please wait until we'll get more information, and in case it is - I'll let you know.

KR,

Vladimir

Hi Vladimir,

Thanks for taking a look at this issue.

The problem persists with Explorer and Chrome, both on Windows 7, and I have experienced the exact same issue before when I tried to access the Learning Hub, a couple of months ago.

However, just now I tested with FF, and it worked just fine. I suppose we can put this issue to bed.

Hi, Johan,

Thanks for the feedback, I will give it another try on IE or Chrome.

However what's also possible that you had an active session in that browser for several hours (with another SAP website which uses the SCI service for SSO and authentication), and when you went into the SCN Beta upgrade reg form - it was expired at that time.

If you ever encounter this issue again, please note the time when it happened, and then let us know where and when. We can try check for more data in the logs.

KR,

Vladimir

Hi Vladimir,

That sounds plausible. In both cases, at least in Chrome, the browser had been open for a long time (many hours, possibly days), and I had been logged into SCN.

However, when it occurred in Chrome, I then switched to Explorer, which I opened at that moment only for that purpose, and got the same issue.

Also, I tested specifically logging out of SCN, and back in.

Another possible factor is that my laptop had been open, and I had been logged into Windows, for several days (without any restarts). I don't know if perhaps Explorer and Chrome use some sort of common Windows cache mechanism (knowledge above my pay grade ).

Johan

Chrome and Windows do share Internet Settings and perhaps more stuff around the sessions / cookies / etc. I'm not 100% sure.

Regarding logging out from SCN - if you logged in with e.g. an S-user with certificate - then even after logging out, the same certificate is automatically picked up by the browser on the next login request. Maybe that has to do with the behavior you've noticed.

I do indeed use an S-User and certificate, so that too would point towards some sort of cache issue. It suggests that logging out does not close the session, at least right away?

Hi, Johan,

The session is terminated on the Service Provider and Identity Provider side, but when there's another request for login it uses the certificate and generates a new session automatically.

Perhaps you got caught up in some intermediate state where the new request was not sent, thus the session was still terminated, and in that upgrade form was displayed while the session was still active and during form submission there was no new session generated but rather a check of existing session.

Hope it makes sense

Hi Johan, is this still happening?

Hi Oliver,

As I mentioned earlier, Vladimir's tip of trying with firefox, paid off.

My account was registered(?) / upgraded(?) / converted(?), so I can no longer reproduce the issue.

Johan
