Best Practices for SAP Implementations

I apologize for putting this in the coffee corner but I have no idea where this would go. We are about to do a clean install of ECC 5.0 ourselves, into a company we just acquired. We just went through an update to ECC 5.0 about a year ago.

We are looking for a best practices document on implementations. Basically I am looking for suggestions/best practices on time allocation and team structure.

Regards,

Davis

Hello Davis,

I think you should provide us more background information to get valuable input. Do you know the SAP Best Practice documentation at: http://help.sap.com/?

I'm not sure what type of background information to give you. We have been using SAP since 1999 and just acquired a new company. We decided to implement SAP in this new company and we are doing it ourselves. We have not publicly announced (to the company as a whole) the choice to go with SAP so we are right at the beginning stages.

We have a few people going to a site of the new company, to talk about the new implementation, and we would like to have documentation to take to them. As I said, we are looking for guidelines to creating the core installation team, time allocations, etc...

Thanks for that link. So far I have been looking at SDN and in Solution Manager.

Regards,

Davis

Hi Davis,

it would help if you can provide the industry sector of your company. So perhaps a Industry Solution would fit. Also the size of the acquired company would help.

I apologize for not being specific but I didn't fully understand what I was looking for until now.

Let me give you some background information. We are putting together a team that consists of employees from our company and the new company. We have no problem fielding the squad from our company with the most knowledgeable users/people. The other company is being reluctant in providing us with the most knowledgeable people. They are not comfortable doing that because it will take them away from their current job.

What we are looking for is documents that are "Best Practices" that will back up our position. I understand SAP isn't going to put out a BP that says "Your core team should consist of top employees" and that it should be common sense so that is why I am having trouble finding anything.

I assume I will have to find a case study of an implementation and read the end notes (what worked and what didn't) and chain a few together. We meeting in the next few days and I am not sure if we will be met with hesitation but we need to be prepared just in case.

So far I have been searching SDN, SAP Marketplace, and Solution Manager but I my searches haven't been successful.

Try ASUG. Since your company already has SAP, I assume you have membership.

Cheers,
