Articles (beta) - edit, move content, comment visibility, content

1. Edit articles:

It is possible to edit articles created by somebody else with no restrictions (I am not a moderator) - is this the intended behavior, if yes - how this will be controlled.

2. Move articles:

There is a move button active for me in the same article. It doesn't seem to move the content yet, but should I be allowed to do so for the article I did not create?

3. Uploading images:

  • Could not get it to work in IE11 (windows 7, all updates installed)- pressing the upload button does nothing:

The same image (75kb jpg) was uploaded successfully via TOR browser with no issues.

  • Cropping an image increases the file size -

4. Comment visibility:

I was able to post only with the first option in TOR.

Will the other options be used in the future? If yes - how Advanced visibility will be controlled?

Hi,

Clarification before I even start: the term article won't be used and will be changed everywhere to discussions, which means Coffee Corner Discussions. You might run into the term article some places, if you do, please reach out and we'll change it

So I'll be using the term discussions. A discussion is a back and forth conversation between people without really seeking an answer to some specific question.

1-2: Good catch. I made some changes to the permissions, could you please tell me what you see now?

3: Okay, that needs to be checked, I tested IE, Chrome and FF and worked well in all of them.

4: From a permission standpoint, you should be able to switch privacy of your own nodes. I tested with a normal user and got the same result as you did. It is working well with a moderator user.

Do you have any recommendations about who should be able to change the privacy of a comment? (we do need it for the OP and mods for moderation purposes).

Sorry for the late reply.

3. I was unable to reproduce the issue with IE11, so this was probably a temporary problem or fixing a different issue resolved this one as well.

4. In my opinion, if regular users start switching the visibility settings of posts, this will make the discussions very hard to understand (especially for people lurking without logging on). Apart from moderation, I really cannot think of a case where visibility per post can be useful.

Hello Vesilina, 4. A regular user would only have the choice to make his posts to regular users and moderators (when he wants to communicate with them). Do you think that's a problem?

Yes, using this approach to allow a regular user to communicate with moderators seems a valid use case. I don't really know the details how moderation will be handled in the new platform, probably it will be good if some of the current moderators, who are testing this functionality in beta, to provide feedback on the topic.
