Request clarification before answering.
Like every mutual fund prospectus says, "past performance does not guarantee future results".
As soon as I reach Diamond level, I'll join the "points are so passe" club too, I promise!

Or with a bow to both gamification proponents and opponents, let's give points until the member hits a threshold of 200(?) points after which no further points accumulate. Gives us the opportunity to detect newbies, but leaves the points games behind, especially towards the end of the year when those point metrics start making folks do stupid and worthless things.
And we can make decisions based on what makes sense. I am tired of being told I can't move content to where it belongs because it will invalidate the leader board (most of whom would also prefer to have the content in the correct location instead of accurate points). Content in correct community is a primary concern. Leaderboard accuracy? It is not even secondary, tertiary at best, possibly quartenary even.
Cheers, Mike
Hi Jelena,
I will admit that I have checked the leader boards when I was looking to recruit additional Moderators and on rare occasions Space Editors. However, that was mostly to compare folks who I was already familiar with.
I think there is some ego gratification in play (I used to be happily surprised when my name popped up), but it is still of little concern for most of the people I work with.
I think the tail of gamification is now sometimes wagging the SCN dog.
Thanks, Mike
I think I have said before elsewhere that points are pointless now... but badges earned based on behaviors are much better. I really think getting rid of external points counters, but instead allowing people to earn badges, is much better way to encourage participation.
If we have to keep points around, then let's bring back the t-shirts or donations to charity . How about SAP donating X amount to MSF if Y people achieve Z points based on existing level in a specified 12 month period? In other words diamonds need to step it up, while the lower tiers need less.
That would at least make some of us feel a lot more better in the point system it was given some real purpose again beyond being the internet equivalent of the Jerry Lewis labor day telethon tote board that everyone like to watch, but most never called .
Take care,
Stephen
I do believe this exists in here I don't need to see your points to know your reputation
