Hi gurus,
We are a large company with ECC ,SRM,SCM, BI/BOBJ and XIPI in place. We are undergoing lots of new SAP projects with differernt consulting companies. Each project wanted to have their owe dev/QA environment, I would like to put together a requirement list for these vendors which helps me to decide what kind of environment they need exactly, for example, a new client instead of a new box.
Below are a few things I can think of, please help add more if you have same experience:
1.What is the purpose of the environment?
2.Which SAP modules do you need? ECC, SCM, SRM, EP, PI, BI/BOBJ ?
3. Project milestone Dates?
4. Does your project require a copy of production data? Can you use anonymized or scrambled data? Do you need all the data or a subset?
5. Does your environment/client require its own unique global config, or can you use a client in an existing environment.
Anything else? Thanks!
Request clarification before answering.
6. Can the solution be provided with only needing to create "delta documentation", or does a full set of system documents need to be created?
That'll scare them off.
Cheers,
Julius
ps: PK, please come to my office...

This is not a job posting. I am very disappointed.

Why be disappointed?
Without more information, it's kind of difficult to give anything other than general advice. For example - what is the nature of the projects that the different consultancies are working on - lots of ABAP development, or Java, or just configuration, or interfaces B2B, B2C. internally? What do you already have in place as a SAP landscape? What is their justification for having their own QA/Dev boxes? Are all the QA/Dev boxes going to merge their work into on Prodution box, or will you have different boxes for different areas? Will everything go live on the same date? Are you going to have a release strategy?
Perhaps if you gave some more detail, a sensible discussion could begin. As Jurjen says - it could develop into an interesting topic.

I think I have some ideas on this but to get things going I'd like to have szome more info about your role in these processes. Knowing that may help in addressing issues at the right level. A few hints about your experience will also help.
Interesting question!

Hi there,
My role is the IT manager. for new SAP projects, I have couple options, create a new SAP Dev box or create a new client.
Our landscape is quite large and things can get quite complicated. I believe we are not the only company who is experencing this issues. Helps or suggestion are welcome.
Thanks
Learn the difference between client and instance is probably a good thing. With a few wrinkles, programs are client independant. What you create is there no matter what client you log into. Configuration is, for the most part, client dependent. I.e. you have to copy it from client to client.
Instance, and indeed, client landscape is can get very complicated - especially if you've a few development/configuration communities. But it's awfully dependent on your specific requirement.
I've done a lot of work on this, but for specific advice, I would have to charge - you can contact me via my business card. Otherwise I'm very glad to give general advice for nowt
