Hi All,
In the initial days of my contribution in workflow forums , I use to see so many threads with the basic questions, which can be found with a simple search help/button. But may be at that time I could not see any body locking the threads. But I felt happy by seeing that atlast our moderator has took the charge to maintianthe qualityof forum.
I remember ,I even posted a thread in Cofeecorner, regarding this. at that time i found so many replies saying that may the forum rules are a bit relaxed comparing to otehr forums. But now I can see that even this forum is treated as same ..........
Thanks MIKE , We love you. Keep going ,.............................
Thanks
Pavan

Thanks for the kind words, we do our best
Two comments though:
- Moderation isn't always visible, in fact that's usually a sign we're doing our job. I don't like public warnings, but if it helps others notice that certain things aren't tolerated then so be it. Often we also reject the post so you don't even get to see it; or we'll write people emails. I'm sure not everyone wants to read about ALL moderator actions because that would also just become noise.
- In many forums we cannot read every single post. Thus we rely on the abuse reports. I use them as a measure of how well the forum is behaving, and it also tells me what annoys people the most. If nobody flags up txt spk then I'm inclined to let it slide more often than if there are regular complaints from different people. And if there are no reports that means everyone's happy and the forum is flowing well. The workflow forum used to get regular reports but in the past few months there have been very very few.
Going by your comments I guess it's time for a little more visible moderation for a little while. Thanks for the input.
Cheers,
Mike

Actually there used to be reports from quite a few people in the WF forum. But it's good to hear that others have noticed an improvement. Why you'd hope to disturb my sleep because of that is another question...
I agree with Lakshmipathi here that it should be the norm.
I also go on vacation and there are mods who step in for others (we also have a mod forum for such stuff) and the forum members do most of the quick work anyway in a distributed virtual mod way using the Abuse Reports.
The trick is to catch "repeat offenders" and then provide good moderator service for them.
The odd fresher or two who asks about the difference between two dates is not really the problem, unless they are given lots of answers, over and over again.
As Lakshmipathi indicated: if you set a good example and be selective in your posts, others will follow suite.
Cheers,
Julius

But then the seasonal members/Top Contributors continue to throw caution to the wind and continue breaking rules unabated.
Single link answers are my current target...
And this guy here would be your ideal target practice.

Yes not only in Workflow forum, but almost in all forums, so many basic questions were posted daily and only a warning message was posted initially. Things were not improving as expected.
Now that, the Moderators are not only locking the thread, but also keep warning the concerned not to deviate the forum rules and wherever, somebody ignoring these warning messages and keep posting basic question, strict warning has been sent personally. Thereby, things are under control and we need to maintain this. Of course, more than locking threads / sending warning messages by Moderators, each and every individual should also have self discipline .
thanks
G. Lakshmipathi
