What is subtemplate in WWI layout templates? How do dependent WWI layout templates work? What is the difference between dependent and independent layout? how to test them both?

Dear Devdat

a.) you can "check" any template in using CG42

b.) or you can do the same in Cg02 (e.g. report from template)

Now since some years (2 years ?)  there is the option to use "includes" in WWI. If you know a little bit WinWord: you have a "parent" document with many "childs". You can test using WWI any child (that mean: develop independent, maintain it independent) and you can test the parent (what you should always need to do (not because of WWI ! but somestimes WinWord behaves "strange")

If you follow OSS dialog the include techiques "provides" chances but some other topics need to be consisered as well (and it is a "new" technique therefore you need to pay attention).

1.) in which "moment" you should use the "include" technique? a Good example is MSDS/SDS. Here by legislastion you are "forced" to have 16 chapters. These can be handled"independent" using "subtemplates". A "bad" example might be "eSDS" (SDS accodring Reach). Yes you can do the same here but there are rsisk

2.) in the area of GLM there is a low possibility to use this technique

3.) but there are "options" e.g. with SOP's; that means: if the document to be generated is "chapter" oriented (like MSDS/SDS) you can use this option with high probabilty.

But you need to know that some "risks" are there as well. On "test" level the "include" can be tested "independent" and maintained independent.

Please check OSS marketplace. A number of OSS notes are related to this technique. Hope this helps.
