Dear Krishna

regarding this topic you find so many threads here... very old topic and discussed very often.

Short: any customer use a different approach; no Best Practise available

Most customer are doing it like: Extract SDS/MSDS from EHS, put it somethere and show them in portal.

PS: e.g. check your own thread; you have asked for SDS/MSDS download in different thread (and check as well for topic as "ChemTrec" Export)

Chris ,

Can you highlights some of those different approach . How we extract and store and link to portal . I will look for chem trec export but that more like sending released sds's to chemtrec right ? Same logic can be applied for company website as well ?

Dear Krishna

I am sorry. We have such many variants of doing the job...it is very customer specific  If you have checked deep the document I have referred to and the many other threads on this

Especially check:

Basicly: the extraction is done always "once in the night" in most cases (and only if there is a "delta" to be supported in document amount). Using this "ChemTrec" approach you will get pdf files and a key files. Many customer just use this and use whatever kinde of technology (there are too many) to create a "portal" with some search option for customer. And then the customer just get this pdf file shown.

In former times there was as well a special solution availableby TechniData (Called Web INterface or something like this). You will find some references here as well

Only some examples on the many threads

Hi Chris ,

Also have you tried this functionality using java web server ,may be technidata solution  . So the extraction program will extract all sds and put in the portal automatically when there are new released reports or new version of existing released reports , Correct ? This turns out to be pure technical job to me .

Dear Krishna

a.) Also have you tried this functionality using java web server  => never used

b) technidata solution   => never used

The "implementation" story depends on "phllosophy"

Coming from user pespective:

1.) YOu can use classical ABAP to genearte an UI

2.) You can use WebDynpro ABAP to do the job

3.) You can use WebDynpro JAVA to do the job

4.) and many other to options exist as well

Now philosophy is started; if we talk about external customers then many companies would like to show SDS/MSDS  íf customer is registered only. Then in most cases this is don using "portal" techniquies (e.g. BSP Pages generated from SAP could be used as well)

Now the techncial part is to be decided. E.g. pdf is state of the art document type. So if you have portal then in most cases pdf documents will be shown

Now the next question comeup: do you extract the pdf from SAP "once the night" (only new once etc.) and present it? Or is there the need to generate "on  fly" the document?

In most cases the "once the night" story is used and here we end up with the so called "Export call" in EHS and Chemtrec interface is one example of such en environment in EHS

So in context of:;

. So the extraction program will extract all sds and put in the portal automatically when there are new released

reports or new version of existing released reports , Correct ?

You runderstanding is here correct

(e.g. )

I googled a little bit and found this example of a "portal" fo SDS/MSDS
